stuny Posted September 6, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 6, 2006 Fernando - A most charming portrait, nicely balanced against the black background. Yours?
fernando_b Posted September 6, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted September 6, 2006 Stuart, thanks. Daughter of a friend. There is something that i'd have done better. I don't point at the little blur due to low shutter speed. Luminosity of the face doesn't satisfy me. The original is a colour slide and I converted B&W simply by using the PhotoShop command: image -> method -> graylevel. May be there's a better procedure. Fernando. fernando_b Posted September 6, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted September 6, 2006 Albert, Elmarit 90 wide open. Strange but I perfectly remember that decided to shot even if the required exposure was 1/15. This is the cause of the blur. Fernando.
semrich Posted September 6, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 6, 2006 Fernando, Just beautiful, the girl and the photo. To my eye there is no need for a lot of concern about "blur" what is there adds to the quality of the photo, it has a softness to it that just accentuates the look of a little girl of that tender age. fernando_b Posted September 7, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted September 7, 2006 Stefan, I had a look to your site. You images have high technical level, so I'll appreciate if you can further explain why you don't like the posted image. Please take into account also the possibility that I couldn't change baby's position. Thank you in advance, Fernando.
bcorton Posted September 7, 2006 Share #10 Posted September 7, 2006 Fernando, I like the image and even what others may consider the bad lighting. If it had "better" light, it would be a different image. I believe the muted tones work well with the "softness" of the image. If you are unhappy with how the conversion to grayscale rendered your tones, you might try using the monochrome conversion feature of the Channel Mixer adjustment: Image/Adjustments/Channel Mixer, and click the monochrome box. Just make sure that the numbers all add up to 100%. All the best, Brent
fernando_b Posted September 8, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted September 8, 2006 Brent, happy that you too like the image, and thanks a lot for the suggestion for monochrome conversion. Fernando.

""just place her infront of a window..you will have much better light. the light is horrible. the tones are dull and sponchy...""" I think it says what you can change: ""just place her infront of a window..you will have much better light."" """Please take into account also the possibility that I couldn't change baby's position.""" why? and if it was like this, dont take the picture in such light conditions. take the baby, place her somewhere where you have strong light, but no direct sunlight. here a drawing I made in the german forum, same think you can do inside, infront of a window: http://www.leica-camera-user.com/menschen/4718-bitte-um-hilfe-tips-anregungen.html regards Stefan
