Guest WPalank Posted March 1, 2008 Share #21 Posted March 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I noticed that a number of contributions were made with Nikon and Canon... Obviously it was not clear to everybody that it was LEICA(!)-day. You've got to be kidding?! Talk about being unsure of a concept.....
Advertisement Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Hi Guest WPalank, Take a look here Leica Day: the Challenge. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted March 2, 2008 Share #22 Posted March 2, 2008 I turned on my hi-fi, looked at the warm glow of the valves in my amplifier and shot that as my picture for the day. Sort of sums up life as a Consultant (Attending) surgeon in the NHS!! Well, if you like classical music, you could do worse than purchasing this 100 CD box set of live Russian performances... Amazon.fr: Les Légendaires Solistes Russes Du XXème Siècle (Coffret 100 CD): Compilation: Musique A true bargain, even if the recording quality isn't state of the art, the performances (or those I've heard so far) are superb. bill Posted March 2, 2008 Share #23 Posted March 2, 2008 I noticed that a number of contributions were made with Nikon and Canon... Obviously it was not clear to everybody that it was LEICA(!)-day. I hope that some editing will be done. I REALLY hope that this is not the case. If it is I shall ensure that those entries are removed. There were only two rules, for heaven's sake! Shoot on the 29th, and use Leica kit! Regards, Bill
bill Posted March 2, 2008 Share #24 Posted March 2, 2008 Right, I have been through all entries. Anyone who has posted an image that shows use of a non-Leica camera but that does not mention use of a Leica lens has been sent a PM asking them to confirm that Leica glass was used or their image will be removed. I will keep an eye on this, but please, if anyone spots non-Leica equipment use, drop me a PM. Regards. Bill
StS Posted March 2, 2008 Share #25 Posted March 2, 2008 In my case the Leica Day turned out to be tantalizing, I had a customer meeting in Kuala Lumpur. Since cameras are not allowed on site (mobile phones are tolerated), I left it in the hotel for the morning. After the meeting my colleagues from Malaysia and Singapore (both Chinese culturally) took me to a Chinese food court. I could have handed in the images below if I would have had my camera with me . Finally I posted an image from the evening when I went out to go for a walk and a coffee. Well, if you excuse posting them for documentary reasons, here are two images from a stupid mobile phone. stunsworth Posted March 2, 2008 Share #26 Posted March 2, 2008 Well, if you excuse posting them for documentary reasons, here are two images from a stupid mobile phone. Considering those are from a mobile they don't look too bad. In fact it makes you wonder how long low end p&s cameras will last given that the images from a phone are adequate for many. andybarton Posted March 2, 2008 Share #27 Posted March 2, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is fun to see other people's contributions - from a picture of someone's computerscreen on his desk, to one of Fujiyama or Bush in his office... The weather here in Belgium was bad, so to play it safe, I first took a pic of a bunch of tulips in our house. Fortunately I later found some more things to choose from. I finally settled for a photo of bicycles in the bikeshop across the street. I noticed that a number of contributions were made with Nikon and Canon... Obviously it was not clear to everybody that it was LEICA(!)-day. I hope that some editing will be done. Please let us know which ones and they will be deleted if they were not made with Leica cameras or lenses.
earleygallery Posted March 2, 2008 Share #28 Posted March 2, 2008 The Canon's may well have had Leica glass (assuming they were DSLR's) but the Nikons!!
octo Posted March 2, 2008 Share #29 Posted March 2, 2008 [1] how did you manage to find time, and,[2] how did you choose the image? I already knew that we would be doing lighting and finitions prior to the evening performance of 'La Traviata', so I loaded the MP with a TMax (old version) and shot the preparation and a couple of shots of the performance itself. I am waiting for the prints before choosing and uploading. Lenses were a 2/35 Summicron and a 2/50 Summicron collapsible. Most shots were at f2 1/30th, hand held. Time: I had from 08:00 until 23:45 at work, on stage. Choice: I'll ask for opinions from wife and daughter, but, in the end, will decide.
StS Posted March 2, 2008 Share #30 Posted March 2, 2008 Considering those are from a mobile they don't look too bad. In fact it makes you wonder how long low end p&s cameras will last given that the images from a phone are adequate for many. Full resolution would have been 1600 x 1200 (Nokia 6233, for the record) - I halved the image size for the forum, which might have improved the image quality by averaging over four pixels. But I agree, the quality is not that bad and better than nothing if nothing better is at hand... The days might indeed be numbered for low end cameras. JBA Posted March 5, 2008 Share #31 Posted March 5, 2008 I took the morning off from work to go pick up my IWC Novecento Perpetual, which had just come back from an overhaul in Switzerland. February 29th has got to be the ultimate day to get back your perpetual calendar watch after months. In any case, it provided an excellent excuse for a photgraphic excursion. When I returned to the office, I ran into two friends in the lobby who were on their way out to lunch, so I joined them and continued shooting. After work, several of us went out, and I continued shooting with TMax 3200 for some memorable shots of a Friday night in Tokyo. Ultimately, I chose a photo from that roll. The photos I considered are posted in this thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/47673-leica-day-candidate-photos.html#post503313
