The question is whether anyone needs 1/8000 shutter speeds now..

You own a D70 Albert, so you know how usefull 1/8000 can be to get shallow DoF in bright sunlight and/or to shoot sharp water drops don't you.

Looks like the M8 won't go faster than 1/4000 though...

It's a R9 shutter in the M8. 1/250 sync and 1/8000 top shutter

Guy, Several people who have actually handled the M8 have said it has a 1/4000 sec top shutter speed. My thoughts on this is that they may have done this to improve the durability, reduce sound or size. I don't see it as a problem. I don't remember using anything over 1/2000 sec, but I do remember being mifted by the 1/1000 sec max of my M6:(

Hmmm I was told 1/8000 and I think you missed what i said, trying not to completely let the cat out of the bag . ( R9 shutter) completely:D :D :D

Just don't ask about noise. :D

Better than today.

Remember all the reports you are reading so far are folks under a NDA. i am not

Have to say that layout is perfect

Surprised there is not a lock button for Auto not that it is really needed ,just thought one would be there

In Leica RF-talk, AE lock is called manual exposure:D

I am curious about how they have set up EV adjustment and if the four-way buttons can be user programed in shooting mode. The pictures so far haven't given any clues.

Could it not be first pressure (without tripping the shutter) on the release button?

Actually what is missing is a exposure compensation lever like on the back of the R9 and with A mode you would think they would have one . The R9 is on the left side but on the M the right side were the wind lever was on film this would have been a nice place to put it because your right thumb would normally be there anyway. Hmmm

I doubt very highly it is in the command buttons below. Too much hassle there . Now there is only three places it could go either right or left and also in front just below the shutter for the middle finger to operate.

Okay were the heck is it

RE: exposure compensation - could be linked to the master control dial on the back, which has no particular function otherwise in shooting mode (or does it, DMR users?).

Thumb the right side up or down, with a +/- readout in the viewfinder. That's how it works in my Sony R1, and it's actually one of the better implementations of exp. comp. I've ever seen/used/felt. No need to remove the camera from the eye. And with decent detents I've never even had it 'shift' on me unintentionally.

Also gives the right thumb something to do on this 'winderless' camera...

Some talk (in French) on the original web site of there being an LCD "remaining exposures" counter on the top plate above the viewfinder - but that's on a piece of the 'puzzle' not yet revealed.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the letters on the dial around the shutter release might mean? I'm hoping they are related to the exposure meter (C_entre and S_pot ??) but I can't think of a logical reason to have them between the "off" switch and the self-timer (if indeed that's what it is).

best

Ade
