Dan States Posted February 22, 2008 Share #162 Posted February 22, 2008 I am currently and I have been CEO in some companies. The hardness of the announcement tells me that there must be some very strong hidden motivations for the removal of Mr. Lee. Some guess: 1. Robbery. 2. The tentative to buy the majority or a large stock of the company. 3. The management of the company NOT following Board Guidelines. 4. The tentative to sell the company to a competitor. 5. The passing of information to a competitor. 6. The tentative to create a competitor. 7. Not ONLY some bad developed business, in my personal opionion! We will see... By the way, I would like to be in the board's minds to know how they are now going on for the research of a new CEO. I suggest that they gat someone OUTSIDE the camera business, trying to get new ideas.... somebody like Steve Jobs.. I agree about the reasons. If this was because of a difference of opinion or even general performance it would have been with a courtesy date of say March 1, and he would have been "Pursuing other interests. We wish him well and thank him for his contributions bla bla bla." Maybe they caught him with the ur-leica in his pants or maybe he was just a horses ass. Not unusual company jumpers these days to be all show and no go.
carstenw Posted February 22, 2008 Share #163 Posted February 22, 2008 Laughs? I am reading this forum less and less, to be honest. It is starting to feel like dpreview's forums. Way too much mudslinging and random, unsubstantiated "facts".
carstenw Posted February 22, 2008 Share #164 Posted February 22, 2008 Please could one of Manusco's acolytes point him toward this thread so that he could tell us he new about all this days ago? He knows we are here. There is a thread on his forum pointing here. I doubt he will get involved considering the insult someone threw his way earlier in the thread. I like to put some more reasons to your list: Lack of new products Very high delay for introducing the new R10 Lack of innovative products Compact digital cameras whitout any new product since last year Bad relation whit Leica employes at Leica Portugal(I know that is true from my trust source) Best,

leicanut2 Posted February 22, 2008 Share #169 Posted February 22, 2008 I liked what Mr Lee said about auto focus lenses and they need to make the R camera smaller. He had good ideas and was a Leica fan. I hope he does well where ever he goes, and I hope Leica keeps a few of his ideas on the table. I do not think they gave him enough time to show what he could do. One thing that is getting harder to take is the prices, some of it is not Leicas fault because they can't control the shrinking US dollar. Freeds1977 Posted February 22, 2008 Share #171 Posted February 22, 2008 given that this is such a good natured forum, I thought I'd build on Alessandro's excellent speculation as to why Lee has gone so quick by making a prediction as to what'll happen next. I think the upgrade program - which was planning to launch ( next week?) will get cancelled on Monday. Anyone want to come up with anything more outlandish- just for fun?... Cocker? stunsworth Posted February 23, 2008 Share #172 Posted February 23, 2008 I think the upgrade program - which was planning to launch ( next week?) will get cancelled on Monday My guess is that it won't be cancelled, but will only apply until the next digital M is released - whenever that may be. ewelch Posted February 23, 2008 Share #173 Posted February 23, 2008 Americans (with some exceptions) As opposed to jingoistic bigots on the other side of the pond (with lots of exceptions)? Everywhere you go there is racism. I was just in Tanzania last May being threatened by a mob because they thought I and my group were South Africans. On the other hand, most places I went you couldn't find a nicer group of people. But then ignorant anti-American jingoism from people who can't distinguish the bad from the good of any group of people shoots off their mouths and show just how small-minded and ignorant anyone can be. I am hurt when people make anti-American comments or anti-German comments (my bloodlines come from a lot of places) and when other people are denigrated. It's not that I don't think the US has problems. Heck, I live here and see it every day. But just stop showing how stupid you are when you attack any group of people because they are simply from somewhere. It really makes you look like an ignorant fool. Been along time since I've visited the list. I hope for the best for Leica in this change of management. They really need it. I was a victim of poor QC with 70-180 2.8 Apo. Leica could not fix the focusing ring so it wouldn't get loose. Drove me nuts! I use Canon EOS system at work (1Ds Mark II) and would love to have a digital Leica outfit for personal shooting. But Leica needs to do a lot better than the M8 if they want us professionals to come back into their digital realm. Heh, I know, not in my lifetime will they ever court pros. Guest darkstar2004 Posted February 23, 2008 Share #174 Posted February 23, 2008 Tim, I could not have put it better myself. 3 new lenses this past year - 2 out of 3 faulty. All sorts of unexplained "funny business" on my "new" M8. Two service/repairs on lenses with 100% failure rate. Hardly the sign of a well run company and there has not been much sign of recent improvement with my first example of the supposedly simpler to manufacture, new Summarit 75mm, being hopelessly out of focus. Wilson What?? The new Summarit lenses are faulty?? Which focal lengths are faulty?? Will someone please elabouate on this?
rob_x2004 Posted February 23, 2008 Share #175 Posted February 23, 2008 Personally I thinkk someone is going to have to show leadership, bite the bullet and appoint Steves father, Stan to run the show.
marknorton Posted February 23, 2008 Share #176 Posted February 23, 2008 I would not read to much in to Leica's stock chart. There are not to many companies that have seen a rise in equity price since the year began on any market. I don't think the stock price is relevant. Kaufmann owns more than 90% of the stock and under German law, he can force minority shareholders to sell; it's to all intents and purposes a private company. bill Posted February 23, 2008 Share #177 Posted February 23, 2008 What?? The new Summarit lenses are faulty?? Which focal lengths are faulty?? Will someone please elabouate on this? rob_x2004 Posted February 23, 2008 Share #178 Posted February 23, 2008 .... there is no better way to pi** off highly skilled German workers, than to have a layman, who probably doesn't speak German, tell them how to do their job. If you want to see someone get bent out of shape and hold a grudge in no time flat, try it sometime. .... Skilled workers, are there any at Leica, or any left, or are you saying they hold a grudge to the detrement of their employer? I wonder what it says about the people that appointed Mr Lee in the first place. This whole thread is a funny. Most amusing, a cack a minute:D. Guest darkstar2004 Posted February 23, 2008 Share #179 Posted February 23, 2008 Read Wilson's post again. I think you will find that he has bought three new lenses this year, two of which were faulty. Regards, Bill That was my first impression, but then I began to wonder if he was referring to certain Summarit focal lengths as a whole. So that is not the case, then? bill Posted February 23, 2008 Share #180 Posted February 23, 2008 That was my first impression, but then I began to wonder if he was referring to certain Summarit focal lengths as a whole. So that is not the case, then? I am reading exacty the same words you are. It seems that he has sent back his first example of the Summarit 75mm - that is not the same as saying that the whole range is faulty.
