I have been a Canadian photojournalist for five years now, shooting digital, but was a casual shooter before getting a job as a police/fire reporter and photographer. I went from 35mm to digital and now, rangefinders. I have wanted a Leica for 10 years, and as of today, I only have to wait about a week for a mint, used M6TTL.... I'm so happy I just had to jump in here and tell someone who'd understand (my hubby is just looking at me funny:p ) I quite like this forum and am looking forward to sharing my Leica journey here... photophile Posted February 17, 2008 Share #5 Posted February 17, 2008 welcome.. as an m6 user for many years.. you'll learn to trust your optical companion and see the world in just a slightly different light. my m6 has seen fires from the top of the ladder truck and aerial tower, inside the building by squad light, etc. etc.. gotten soaked, frozen, bumped... and still keeps taking pictures. have fun ! best. Actually, Bill, I'm hoping it will get here in time for me to take part in the Leica Day effort, which I think is a wonderful idea. And, I hope to try it out on the job, too, along with my d2h, 200/2.8 and sony videocam to shoot for the website... I just need another two arms and I'm set... Indeed, I now have two, an M6 and a Digilux 3. Regrettably, the latter failed after minimal use and I still wait (3 weeks) for it's return from Germany. I now regret not going for an M8 but hopefully my Cambridge (UK) dealer will offer me an attractive part exchange deal?? By way of an introduction, I studied photography in the 1950's using 1/4 plate glass negatives in a wooden camera and later on a Rolliecord 111. For this reason perhaps, I still favour film although digital offers many advantages. Can't wait to process my first Leica film. I've lived in the Ottawa Valley for many years with much writing and shooting for the OTTAWA CITIZEN. I'm retired and living in the Northumberland Hills now but my M4-P is rather a long way from being retired. I got the camera today and I'm over the moon; I can't believe I actually own such a quality camera. To R Morrison, I used to be the editor of Barrys Bay This Week and read the Citizen religiously; an excellent newspaper with a high standard of writing and photography. To everyone else, I truly appreciate this forum for its humour, helpful advice and general camaderie. I have enough stress on the job without hanging out in online photography groups where the members do nothing but hurl insults and argue!
