chkphoto Posted February 16, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I did a quick forum search and didn't find anything regarding the slop and side to side movement of the D3's kit lens. On mine, even when fully retracted to 14mm there is still side to side play. When extended there is so much I can't imagine the optics line up with the sensor with any precision. And the lens has never suffered a hard hit of any kind. I can't make an accurate judgement on the sharpness of my images (they are not out of focus) because the lens has been like this since I got the camera so I don't know if what I am seeing is as good as it gets or is way off the mark. Has anyone a lens that is similar or is it back to NJ with this one? Thanks for any replies in advance.

dugby Posted February 16, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2008 Hi Charles, I just checked the D3 lens on my L1.........it's just as tight as the fixed lens on my D2. Before sending it off to NJ.... just check the lens mount to see if there are any loose or missing screws in the mount .....
DonQuijote Posted February 16, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 16, 2008 Hi Charles, I can also confirm that my kit lens on the Digilux-3 is tight and has a solid feel - i.e. no play. at least not in the way you described. Good luck..
jdlaing Posted February 16, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 16, 2008 Mine is crisp with no side to side play. I also have an L1 with the same lens and there is ever so slight side play.
goodbokeh Posted February 16, 2008 Share #5 Posted February 16, 2008 Yes, send it in, Leica NJ will make it right. A solid warranty program is one of the big benefits that the Digilux 3 has over the L1. So take advantage of it!
chkphoto Posted February 17, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted February 17, 2008 Thank you for all the replies. The saddest thing is that I was almost thinking that the movement in the lens was due to today's acceptance of the lack of manufacturing precision, and this is what we now get as "quality" off a manufacturing line. Back to NJ it goes...
