Eclectic Man Posted February 13 Share #643 Posted February 13 My beloved Leica R5 with 50mm f/1.4 Summilux (the lens cap falls off in very cold weather as it did when I went mountaineering* in Bhutan). I use it so little that I really should sell it to someone who would appreciate it, but every time I pick it up I remember that I am in LOVE with it 💕 Welcome, dear visitor! If addressing a non-climber, I go 'mountaineering'. If addressing a proper mountaineer, I am a hill-walker, rock climber, trekker or client of proper mountaineers. I was dragged up a snow gulley in Bhutan, while carrying this camera, by the proper mountaineer, Victor Saunders, of whom I was definitely a client.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! *OK So regarding my definition of "mountaineering". I bought some of my Leicaflex accessories (bellows & 100 macro) in the late 60s from Altman's camera in Chicago: three stories with escalators between floors. When I visited in '69 I was offered a new Noctilux 50 1.2 which I'd never seen in stock anywhere else. (Couldn't afford it then either...) I remember the Altman's ads in the camera magazines of the day.

I don't know anything about Altmans, but here's what I found. I couldn't find a magazine ad, but this one looks like a newpaper ad. Welcome, dear visitor! AmbientLightNZ Posted September 24 Share #647 Posted September 24 Advertisement (gone after registration) Had to purchase a body to shoot the new Leica Monocrom 50 filmstock (because it would feel wrong to use my Canon film gear) and I've fallen in love. And the best part is I haven't had anyone bother me while out using it, unlike with my S2 or CL digital bodies 😂 Welcome, dear visitor! gbealnz Posted September 26 Share #648 Posted September 26 Pure joy to shoot the SL, I have one, and the SL2.

I agree - I bought mine in 1969 after getting my M4 and and finding my Canon & Pentax SLR suddenly felt cheap to use. Handled the SL in the camera shop and it sold itself. Of course I could afford much in lenses for a long time after that - just the 50 Summicron, 135 Tele, and 100 bellows macro.

Is it harassment or just a bunch of questions?

gbealnz Posted September 28 Share #652 Posted September 28 Time to post my R cameras. This SL, in black paint, was a gift from a dear friend before he passed away in 2016. I travelled Europe with it, and an R6 in 2017. It will be a hand-me-down for our son. Welcome, dear visitor! gbealnz Posted September 28 Share #653 Posted September 28 And a more recent acquisition, with only the one roll through it so far. Not sure if it will remain with me, but it came up, and I'd always hankered after the SL2. Welcome, dear visitor! gbealnz Posted September 28 Share #654 Posted September 28 And my most recent find, just so nice to use. The R21~35 is a gem as well, and on a recent trip to Oz, I took the R8 and R21~35, alongside a Hasselblad X1Dii, with the R21~35 being shared between both cameras. Welcome, dear visitor!
