symmetron Posted February 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 11, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) My 28mm needs lubricating. The the focusing ring has too much drag. I want to lubricate it myself, but I need a recommendation for the lurbricant/grease. I want to try this myself first. If it doens't work out, I'll send it in. Need advice. Thanks. kodaktrix Posted February 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 11, 2008 Hello Joseph, I would recommend HighTechTeflon grease which You will get in bike shops. I used it on a 6.8/400 Telyt and a 1.5/35 Canon LTM. Regards Oliver
lct Posted February 11, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2008 Tried once with a R24/2.8 with no avail. Removing the bayonet is not complicated per se but the helicoidal ramp is not visible yet, there are other parts to remove afterwards like the f-stop preselection ring so i dared not go that far. masjah Posted February 11, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 11, 2008 Joseph Hope you don't mind my saying that your post rang alarm bells for me! Assuming that you have the tools and knowldege to dismantle to the point of exposing the helicoid threads (both threads, inside and outside that is) you really would need to clean out and remove the old dried out lubricant first of all. So I would have thought that it would be very important also to know what the appropriate solvent is. Then, with the lens partially dismantled, there would be the danger of getting solvent, old gunk and new lubricant on the optical surfaces, possible including internal ones. The more I think about it, the less I personally feel I would have the nerve to do it. I really would send it in. Hope you don't mind my being frank! hamey Posted February 11, 2008 Share #5 Posted February 11, 2008 Mine is the same, tight compared to my other Lenses Joseph. But because it has only a small rotation I am not that bothered. But if it does bother you, I would send it to Leica. Cheers.
