Eoin Posted January 29, 2008 Share #41 Posted January 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wilson, all I did was disable the default sharpening in Aperture and then add a mild amount of edge sharpening. The rest are all just, open the image, crop, export as jpeg 960x640 72 Dpi, quality 7ish, or jpeg medium, sRGB profile and post here. These are the defaults in the various apps except I always disable the initial sharpening in aperture and replace it with edge.

andrewfoto Posted March 21, 2008 Share #43 Posted March 21, 2008 Glad to see that I'm not the only one having this occasional problem. My previous slr camera would not have been sharp enough to have such things happen. The problem is annoying though especially for commercial jobs. I get moire on text frequently when I document gallery installations. Here are a few contributions. Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted March 21, 2008 Share #44 Posted March 21, 2008 Andrew, How was this photo taken - DNG or JPEG. Leica's in-camera processing to JPEG seems very moiré and colour fringing prone. Maybe because of their very high contrast, this seems to affect Zeiss lenses particularly badly. I went to Barcelona last spring and due to brain fade took three days of photos all with either Biogon 35 or 21 on JPEG only. I had lots of moiré on tiled roofs and colour fringing on fountain shots. Since I switched over to C1/4 for all DNG processing, both moiré and fringing have almost disappeared. Mind you about the time I went to C1/4, I also went all Leica from 50/50 Zeiss/Leica on my lenses and that may also have something to do with it. It was not that I did not like the Zeiss lenses but having got a WATE and a 35 ASPH Summilux the two Biogons were just not getting used. andrewfoto Posted March 27, 2008 Share #45 Posted March 27, 2008 DNG has been the only file format used with the M8. Processed in Lightroom. I will try C1 on these files and see what happens. I have also had luck with the suggestion earlier in this thread (lab color and blur). No complaints on the Zeiss M8 combo. Love the contrast and can live (for now) with the occasional moire if it can corrected. I am very happy to even have this occasional problem. The M8/zeiss combo is giving me results that more than surpass my 6x7 images without the pain of traveling with film or the scanning. Thanks to this forum and the wealth of knowledge and experience people share.
