bcaslis Posted 7 hours ago Share #1 Posted 7 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) I got an M EV1 a few days ago and I'm still experimenting with the best setup. Right now I'm leaning towards no auto magnification, no focus peaking, and zooming in on demand for critical focus. What have others settled on that works for them? Not looking for input such as "get a rangefinder", I've had an M11, thank you.

lct Posted 6 hours ago Share #4 Posted 6 hours ago For nailing focus, autozoom at working aperture + focus peaking. For good enough focusing, focus peaking at full aperture. White focus peaking as well.

bcaslis Posted 4 hours ago Author Share #7 Posted 4 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) My current setup is similar to Lightwrangler. Lots of YouTube videos take about using frame line lever right for magnification but this feels really cumbersome to me. Using the top function button feels much easier (at least to me). I need to experiment with focus peaking (I use white also) but it doesn't seem to be very useful unless zoomed in.

Not looking for input such as "get a rangefinder", I've had an M11, thank you. That's the destination I arrived at with the M10M and the EVF. I find auto magnify a bit too annoying for composing. Same for focus peaking...it is a bit disruptive to composition for me, and I never found it particularly accurate for my brain either. I just punch in as needed. I set magnify to the front button. jaapv Posted 3 hours ago Share #9 Posted 3 hours ago Does the thumbwheel have an fn function by pushing it in like the SL has? In that case it is quite efficient to set the push to trigger magnification and rotate in the same movement to select the amount.

The thumbwheel can control the magnification amount and pressing can be used for focus aid (mag on or off), but I currently use this for ISO control just like I did on the M11.
