marknorton Posted 7 hours ago Share #1 Posted 7 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) An SL3 is inbound so keen to know: - the grip, pricey (now there’s a surprise). I like them for vertical shooting as on the Nikon Z9. What’s the experience? - I have a collection of R lenses which were once highly rated (for their time), like the 100 macro, the APO 180 and I enjoy using them on an M. For the L, you can stack R to M and M to L adapters or else buy the pricey (now there’s a surprise) R to L adapter. Is the R to L adapter just a fancy extension tube or does it interact with the newer R lenses to pass information to the camera?

Personally I do not find it worth the trouble and use the Novoflex adapter.

No info, but I get the lens profiles on the camera and that's it.
jaapv Posted 6 hours ago Share #4 Posted 6 hours ago Actually I have a few L-M adapters and keep them on the M lenses that I use most.More practical than having one adapter and switching all the time. I do not bother with Leica adapters for uncoded lenses. Nearly all dumb ones work just fine.

What’s the experience? I have the grip for the SL (Typ 601), but is has the controls in the same arrangement as that for the SL3. As a Z9 shooter you will discover that, unlike the Z9, the SL3 vertical grip controls are configured differently from those on the body. So when shifting from landscape to portrait orentation you will quickly find the shutter button and joystick to be in different locations from what you expect. redrocksjoe Posted 2 hours ago Share #6 Posted 2 hours ago I have the novoflex adapter that I use on a 16mm elmarit-R. Works great! I love my SL3, guessing you will too. -Joe

LD_50 Posted 48 minutes ago Share #9 Posted 48 minutes ago The SL series vertical grip is pretty clunky. I would say it’s nothing like the built-in grips on something like a Nikon Z9. I have a lot of experience with Nikon vertical grip bodies and don’t even bother with the SL series.
