cc16051987 Posted Wednesday at 07:50 AM Share #1 Posted Wednesday at 07:50 AM Advertisement (gone after registration) I know there have been many discussions comparing the two etc., but I wanted to get advice particularly in my case- I shoot street photography, mainly do portraits. I just ordered an M11M and had put a deposit on it with a 50 APO, however in my use case scenario I get a feeling I'd be better off with a Summilux close focus and its painterly rendering. What do you guys think? Which would be a better fit on an M11M in regards to street portraiture?
Advertisement Posted Wednesday at 07:50 AM Posted Wednesday at 07:50 AM Hi cc16051987, Take a look here Which 50 on an M11M? (APO Summicron vs close focus Summilux). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
romanus53 Posted Wednesday at 08:30 AM Share #2 Posted Wednesday at 08:30 AM if you need close focus for your street portrait (EVF use only) you'll have to go for that. I do remember rendering is more pleasant with Apo than the Lux-asph as the Lux has a busy bokeh wide open. Discussion is on a high level of lens-quality. The Apo steps back behind your vision of the picture, the Lux may add some character.
jakontil Posted Wednesday at 08:34 AM Share #3 Posted Wednesday at 08:34 AM I have both, whilst i love the rendering of the lux, my street photo lens is an apo cron and a BW film.. apo is great for fashion portraits too unless you need the close focus, u dont have a choice.. if u prefer portraits with moody style and wide open, it is the lux
burchyk Posted Wednesday at 11:59 PM Share #4 Posted Wednesday at 11:59 PM I find 50mm FL too short for close-up portraits and prefer to stop-down whenever I can. Cron out of those 2.
patrickcolpron Posted Thursday at 10:22 AM Share #5 Posted Thursday at 10:22 AM The 50 Lux is the do it all 50 in the Leica lineup, very good at everything and to me the best Leica 50 for work, period. I would not consider the 50 ASPH with close focusing, I much prefer version 1, better design. Sadly, online these days, the latest seems to always be the greatest. The 50 APO is much more pleasant to use and offers awesome colour renditions and micro contrast, between these two I prefer the 50 APO, specially for street. If it is close focusing which attracts you to the new 50 ASPH, I'd recommend to wait for the new 'rumored' 50 APO with close focusing or just get the 50 APO now as it is small and ideal on an M camera. Also because a rumor is only a pipe dream until it is announced.
cc16051987 Posted Thursday at 01:58 PM Author Share #6 Posted Thursday at 01:58 PM Seems like APO it is. Looking forward to make some magic with it (albeit, in a few good months of waiting)..
cc16051987 Posted Thursday at 06:08 PM Author Share #7 Posted Thursday at 06:08 PM Advertisement (gone after registration) PS, What are your feelings regarding a silver anodized APO lens on an M11M aesthetically? For some reason the black version is roughly 30% more over here, so I went with a silver one.
