Hello all, 

I accidentally dropped my M3, I inspected the camera and I see no problem and the prism viewfinder is still intact. However, I noticed a small irregular shape (god shake I don't know what to call) on top of the view finder. I am diagnosed with ADHD so I am very OCD in term of thing I like. I know I need to move on, but since it is already 1 week, and I still could not shake my head off about this.

Thanks mate! I checked the rangefinder, it indeed focus correct

I think it's called a 'ding', if everything inside is ok carry on, but dropping an M camera is usually much more serious that that so you got away with it.

it is not a heavy drop. I was putting it in the cloth pen box on my wooden desk. While playing my computer, it got knocked and felt flat into the front and smacked into the table. The drop was about 2inches no more. I just find out the brass of M3 is extremly soft rather than robust as people praise for.

If indeed the camera works ok, switch your ocd from that always-there aesthetic reminder of the 'ding' to the qualities of the images that you actually make.  It's not about having a perfect 'object' - it's about what it produces.  It's a tool.  Embrace it as it is and for what it does.

Thankfully it just looks to have flattened a small section of the edge, rather than a dent in a flat surface which is vastly more obtrusive. It is, in fact, extremely minor. Give it time. You’ll learn to embrace the new character mark. You’ve just added to the camera’s history and made it yours.

As @rogxwhit suggested, the more you use it to make other memories (i.e., photos) the less the mark will bother you, and it will just become part of the camera rather than a blemish.

Thank you so much! Yes! That is why I don't want to own a nice thing without the fear ruining it. It is not that bad, but I guess, we all have first time.. I will move on! Thanks mate

Thank you so much! Yes! I believe it is just a small subtle ding on the edge. I will embrace it and move on. Thanks mate! My first Leica ever.

there are people on this forum who ask questions about resale value, and removing plastic wrapping and other silly things even before they have used their brand new camera

so ignore the little aberration and keep taking photos

I was mortified when I dropped a tripod on top of one of my M9s and this was the result.

That "ding" resulted with the vertical alignment being knocked out. Fortunately I was able to re-callibrate it and all is fine for shooting. I no longer notice the "ding"  as it happened almost 3 years ago and hasn't needed re-callibrating since I just use it. Think of your "ding" as a bit of personalisation and enjoy using it and the results it will give you.
