o2mpx Posted September 3 Share #1 Posted September 3 Advertisement (gone after registration) As the M11 is officially discontinued, are new buyers selecting the Glossy Black or the M11-p? Or waiting for the M11V or holding off until the M12?
Advertisement Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Hi o2mpx, Take a look here Anyone Buying the M11? Or M11-p?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LeicaR10 Posted September 3 Share #2 Posted September 3 O2mpx, I think you will find photographers who are wating and watching what is coming with the M11-V for October. The M11-P was in short to no supply, as I was told the M11-P body minus the top cover and other parts are allegedly being used for the production of the M11-V. I have noticed there are some M11-P cameras listed on USA sites now and available elsewhere. As for M11-P/V follow-on, there are only rumors when that model maybe available in 26/27...only Leica knows that secret. r/ Mark
ALScott Posted September 3 Share #3 Posted September 3 (edited) Safari's, Glossy's and M11D's are available now at Leica Miami, plus the same and more at Leica SF and B&H, and weren't for a bit. Edited September 3 by ALScott

rxj Posted September 4 Share #7 Posted September 4 Advertisement (gone after registration) Went from M11 -> M11-P Safari a few months ago. Happy with what I have and using it regardless of if a M11-V or M EV1 comes out. They won't release the M12 so quickly after the EVF version as they'd want to pump sales on that so it'll be a while. Buy what you like and want and enjoy it and don't wait or you'll be waiting forever for the next best thing.
costa43 Posted September 4 Share #8 Posted September 4 I bought the M11-P once the M11-V rumour picked up pace. I figured it meant the M12 is not around the corner, let alone an M12-P/D which is where my interest lies. Those models will probably not be out till 2028.
Kiwimac Posted September 4 Share #9 Posted September 4 I bought the 11-P Safari on release.

I am in the same situation, have an M11 silver and planning to trade it in for the safari version.

I am in the same situation, have an M11 silver and planning to trade it in for the safari version. Was nothing wrong with my M11, got it in '22 and sold it in this year. I got the -P safari because I like green and the top script and wanted something a little different. Given all my lenses are silver, it looks nice aesthetically. For actual usage, I do appreciate the additional storage when out shooting though as while I'm not a professional when I get do get jobs or travel, it really does come in handy as those 60MP RAW files and JPEGs shooting a whole day can fill up space fast. YMMV and it's up to what you like.
nthomas Posted September 4 Share #12 Posted September 4 Thinking about grabbing the M11 GBP. Black paint is another category in Leica world. Neither the M11v or M12 would change this.
M11 for me Posted September 4 Share #13 Posted September 4 I wonder why one should buy an M11 (base model) instead of the M11-P which was the next development step anyway. Is there any reason? Or is it the difference in price of 200€ ? The fact that M11 is discontinued is of little importance. And it is also clear that an M12 will follow some time. There is no doubt about that. As a conclusion you can say that when you are interested in buying the 11 model then buy the M11-P. What else? And be aware that the 11 series was launched in January 2022. It is not even 4 years old. No need to expect the 12 series soon.

That's my main concern. Also the finish of Glossy Black vs the Safari but that is more of a personal taste than specs issue.

I've had 2 (maybe 3) lockups in 3 years of ownership. That said well into my Safari usage and no problems with mine. Just also remember the M11-P cameras were not built during COVID and with the firmware the bugs should be worked out. Not seen any Safari issues as such. JNK100 Posted September 5 Share #16 Posted September 5 I have the M11 and have had no issues at all. The M11 Safari is just a green 11P, and the M11P a M11 with 256gb instead of 64gb, a sapphire screen and cosmetic differences only as far as I am aware. If this is the case, there will be no difference in reliability.

If this is the case, there will be no difference in reliability. That depends. Imagine that Leica trace the source of the initial issues at least partly to some small component on an M11 circuit board made for them by an outside company. As the model ages they take the opportunity as part of the P iteration to change the component in the circuit. We notice only a reduction in issues and Leica has little interest in or reason to tell customers.
Robert Ardinger Posted September 5 Share #19 Posted September 5 1 hour ago, Kiwimac said: As the model ages they take the opportunity as part of the P iteration to change the component in the circuit. I would think this could be true as the M11-P (and M11-D) has the "Content Credentials" chip (hardware based) and the M11 does not. It likely would be that a "new" M11 circuit board would be needed to add the credential chip. This could have been an opportunity to change other aspects of the board.
beewee Posted September 6 Share #20 Posted September 6 (edited) It’s not uncommon for companies to make under the hood changes to components even without a model change. This is when internal harder revisions are made. As long as the product performance and user experience doesn’t change, there’s no need to make it a new model. Sometimes components are updated to improve stability, sometimes to reduce cost, sometimes parts become obsolete and must be replaced with an alternative to keep the production line going. Also, the M11 has multiple PCBs inside which are interconnected with ribbon/flex cables. Edited September 6 by beewee 1
