Rollin Posted August 24 Share #1 Posted August 24 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Curious not only what bag, lenses and body(s) you chose for a particular type of outing, but also the other items in your bag. Add a photo and then detail the contents of your bag with comments - include at least one Leica M-body. Please make separate posts for your different kinds of outings - travel, street, hiking, etc. - if your kit changes markedly. Rollin Posted August 24 Author Share #2 Posted August 24 (edited) Photojouralism Earlier this year I wanted to get back to photojournalism, so volunteered for a pair of local Iowa weekly newspapers. Making a go at primarily manual focus reportage like when I was a staff photographer at daily papers in the 80’s and early 90’s with an SLR. See my Instagram for results from my assignments. FrozenInTime Posted August 24 Share #4 Posted August 24 For extra realism, add on how much those bags weigh, and how long you normally carry them.
BWColor Posted August 24 Share #5 Posted August 24 Mindshift Photocross 13 Here are three different kits packed into above sling bag. Took a one week film only road trip. Trying out two new cameras, one new lens and one rarely used lens/focal length. This time out I didn’t go out with the bag since I only shot one camera/lens combination a day. M6/21mm SEM, M3/90mm Macro-Elmer, M-A 50mm APO/Asph Lanthar, Reveni Labs Lumo/Spot Meter 2 and Keks M Meter. Previously M11M/21mm Biogon-c ZM, 35mm APO Asph Lanthar, X2D/25mm & 38mm XCD lenses and last pairing Fuji GS645. & GS645W. This bag is very comfortable to carry and use. Previously, three weeks with this and my wife took the Mindshift Photocross 10. Both bags fit under the seat when traveling by air.
lct Posted August 24 Share #6 Posted August 24 I don't carry big bags anymore since i'm retired but i never liked thoses big things TBH. In my film days i could stuff 1 M body and 3 compact lenses (Summicron 35/2 v4, Summicron 50/2 v4, Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8) in a tiny combination case for Leica CL. Now i use an old K&H compact bag for general outings. Here with M11, Visoflex 2, Summicron 50/2 DR, Nokton 35/1.4 SC v2, Nokton 75/1.5, Skopar 21/4 with hoods, cards, battery and lens caps. With the camera on one shoulder and the bag on another not heavy at all, and only use that set up when can set the bag down periodically. Nothing like the ol' Domke bag and SLR kit back in the day. For when having to move a lot I use the field pouch and cut down to 2-3 lenses so comfortable. And love how it sits in the small of my back. Welcome, dear visitor! DenverSteve Posted August 25 Share #12 Posted August 25 My bags change for every shoot so there is no one. That said every bag will be Billingham large (555) or small (Hadley Small Pro) bags. If I'm taking a M it will be my M11 with necessary kit, Summicron 35, 50 and 75 lenses. It will also (always) contain a Q3 43 and/or CL body as a back up. Batteries, usb cords Visoflex for the M, cleaning items, a shower cap used to cover any camera I have out in inclimate weather. If I'm shooting commercial work the bags will have Sony gear, with 2 bodies, for longer FL capacity and a Leica M, CL or Q as accessory body. Urban street outings (regardless of city) are bagless and will be 2 bodies and attached lens. Again, this will be M11 and Q43 or CL & Q43.

This is a general kit I take when just out and about: M6TTL, 35mm Summicron, 50mm Canon LTM and 90mm Rokkor. Film du jour plus an SF20 flash sometimes. Light weight and versatile.

I keep all my photo and cine equipment organized in equipment drawers and cabinets until pulled to pack or prepare for a shoot. Since everything is removed from bags and cases between shoots to be checked and cleaned, I don't keep anything in bags, cases or trunks (for documentary video shoots) just sitting around until I'm prepping for a shoot. In two weeks I'll be heading to Boston and Quebec afterwards and won't be pulling those cases until late next week. However, this is how they live until packed. Tripods and larger gear live in long cabinets. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! JoshuaR Posted August 28 Share #20 Posted August 28 I love these kinds of threads. I'm a journalist—a writer, not a photographer. But I take a lot of pictures while I'm out reporting, and I use a rucksack made by a Scottish company called Trakke. I actually have two of these bags, one big, one small, and I have one of them with me whether I'm out reporting or hanging out with my wife and kids. I use the big one as my only luggage for long multi-night reporting trips. In the bag I always have: My M10-R 28mm Summicron v1 50 Noctilux f/1.2 Reissue Tiny Sony audio recorder with built-in USB interface A little notebook with a pen clipped to it A small emergency first-aid kit and a packable rain shell Altoids with some ibuprofen added to the tin Kindle iPhone and AirPods Pro My e-ink tablet (which I use instead of a laptop much of the time), a ReMarkable Paper Pro. I find that, with this as my base setup, I can do pretty much all of my work, adding to it as necessary. Photography-wise, I have a range of M lenses—24, 28, 35, 50, 90—and I will sometimes pack 24 / 35 / 90 or just 35 instead of 28 / 50. But 28 / 50 is my favorite combination. I also have a Ricoh GR IIIx, for those times when I need to go especially light but still record what's going on. And I'm toying with the idea of getting a Q2 as my "reporting" camera. I've owned a Q2 twice before, so know the camera really well; it's so incredibly practical, but the bottom line is that I enjoy my M more.
