iLeica Posted January 10, 2008 Share #1 Â Posted January 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey everyone. I just purchased a C-Lux 2. My only caution is does anyone know if there is a Leica C-Lux 3 in the works to be due out soon? I've got a 14 day return period on my camera and I can still return it with no problems. I know they usually follow what Panasonic models come. Should I be concerned about an upcoming model in the very near future or am I safe with this one? Thanks. Advertisement Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Hi iLeica, Take a look here Just bought the C-Lux 2, should I keep it?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest stnami Posted January 10, 2008 Share #2 Â Posted January 10, 2008 Why did you bother buying it if you had zero confidence in yourself? It's bit rich to buy with the intent to give back if someone says that there is something new soon............ you have asked the question before and got advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stuny Posted January 10, 2008 Share #3 Â Posted January 10, 2008 John - Â Welcome to the Forum. Â Your concern is a very common one in the area of technological products. Dozens of times I've heard people delay purchase of a computer since they are sure something better will come out before long. Sometimes that new thing comes along and those people still continue waiting for the next new thing. Quite frankly, if you want to participate at some point you must jump in. Â The Leica versions of Panasonic cameras always lag introduction by at least a few months -- and many times Leica does not elect to release their own version of Panasonic cameras. Within its limitations (only automatic operation, no viewfinder) the C-Lux-2 (and the Panasonic equivalent FX07) is an excellent camera, and you can get very satisfying results with it (On our website, almost all the photos in the New York photo galleries, beginning with the middle of the 4th page, are with this camera). The C-Lux 1 (and the Panasonic FX01) came first, and there is very little difference between the first and second generations. Just enjoy your camera. Perhaps someday in the future you will elect to go for a different generation or different model all together, but in the meantime you will have enjoyed using your purchase. earleygallery Posted January 10, 2008 Share #4 Â Posted January 10, 2008 Was this an impulse buy? Â The C Lux 2 has been out for a little while now, so given the typical life cycle of the average digicam it's reasonable to expect that it would probably be replaced by a new model some time in the next year. Â BUT newer doesn't always mean better. With small digicams the 'improvement' usually amounts to more MP's but they don't always mean better results and in some case quite the opposite. Â Having made the decision to buy the camera, just keep it and use it and enjoy it.
jmr Posted January 10, 2008 Share #5 Â Posted January 10, 2008 John, Â as James says, keep it - use it - enjoy it - then share the results in the Photo Forum.
robert_parker Posted January 10, 2008 Share #6 Â Posted January 10, 2008 Agree with John and James, use it and enjoy it !! Â One of the features of modern technology is that nowadays it's analogous to watching a river flowing in front of you - it's a matter of picking what place and time you jump in. Â Perhaps encouraging is the fact that most Leica branded digicams still retain a good secondhand value, even after an alternate model becomes available, so why not jump in now (and as said above, post your images in the forum for the rest of us to enjoy !!) iLeica Posted January 10, 2008 Author Share #7 Â Posted January 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for all the input guys. I think I will keep it and start to use it as my very own. I've got a Canon 30D as my SLR. I want to get a Leica SLR too. I'll look around for other opinions which one to get unless someone wants to offer their 2 cents in here.
nostatic Posted January 10, 2008 Share #8 Â Posted January 10, 2008 i bought my D-lux 3 and had the same thoughts. Hard not to opt for either spending less on a Panny (roughly) equivalent, or just not spending any money and keep shooting with what you've got (assuming you've already got a camera that does what you need). The fact that my local shop changed their return policy (as in no returns except for store credit) induced me to decide to keep the Leica. Well, that and the fact that I'm getting some very new "looks" out of my shots, and that is worth the price of admission. Plus this stupid red dot seems to have some psychological pull that now has me starting to ponder four thirds and dumping my D70 and handful of associated lenses for a Digilux 3 body with 14-150 Leica zoom and 35mm Olympus macro lenses. Then I'll be set...until....
