Isn’t the flange distance in rangefinder’s shorter, and do other manufacturers make M lenses with less glass as Leica…?

It’s the simplicity of the M lenses that the Leica Look originates…👀

I have seen so many different “unique” looks from M lenses that there must be thousands if not millions of Leica looks. It is a sympathetic myth, picked up by Leica marketing.

The Leica Look comes from the unique simple design of the glass made by Leica for the M systems…!

Thorsten Overguaard was the photographer who brought the Leica Look to my attention, not Leica…!

There is nothing simple about the design and Keica does not make any glass, that is by companies like Schott,Sumita and many others.

It’s the way Leica manufacturers the lens from the glass…!

Yes. That is what I said. They sold it to Schott halfway the last century. But please keep believing in the magic if it inspires your photography.
Nobody is denying the quality of Leica lenses -which comes at a price. But they follow the same laws of optics that all lens designers and each lens design has its own unique compromises. But the way an image looks is determined by the photographer.

Actually Leica designs a lens that no other manufacturer does.  This design is the Leica Look…!👀

Actually Leica regularly buys designs from other manufacturers - always has. Only the very top  designs are guaranteed to come from Leica.

Given the discussion let’s start by defining the Leica Look, given that it seems that it can be applied to any image by any lens regardless of brand through use of the app.

I have been using Leica since I was 19 years old. That is 60  years. In that time I have also used Nikon, Hasselblad, various large format lenses. If I were to put a random group of slides on a light table I would not know which camera lens I used. I have never seen a Leica look. I have seen brilliant photographs taken with Leica cameras and lenses, but the brilliance has been due to the photographer always. Why then use Leica is there is no special look? Because using one inspires the photographer. Leica glass is wonderful, the lenses are built like tanks and are smooth as buter to use, but it is the eye behind the lens that makes the picture.

I started using Leica cameras and lenses in 1967-8. They were and continue to be a joy to use and quite reliable. Expensive as Hell, although I was often able to get substantial military discounts when in Europe. For years I tried to define the "Leica look", and finally came to the conclusion, after using a variety of other cameras, that the "Leica look" was virtually indistinguishable from other high end lens manufacturers when one closed down the diaphragm 1-2 stops. Having said that, I still love and cherish my Leica cameras and lenses, and since I can use the lenses (R, M, and LTM) on a digital mirrorless body I treasure them all the more. Having said all that, I still haven't discovered the elusive "Leica look".😁

What I learned and have reasonable belief in is Leica manufactures an M lens for optimal performance for the rangefinder flange distance.  This distance incorporates a design that uses less glass which produces more micro contrast and less aggressive sharpness called the Leica Look…👀

Thorsten Overguaard explains this Leica Look and also says these Leica M lenses are unparalleled and the best there is…!

I've always thought it was a rather good slogan...to help sales.

It's taken off since the early days, now so ingrained many believe it's true.

...

A bit like the 35mm Summicron v4 “King of Bokeh”. You'll never get rid of it. 😉

Leica have recently used it to good effect with their ‘Leica Looks’ colour/b&w profiles.

I think naming these profiles must have been done with a certain twinkle in the eye. They play on the expression, which of course they were familiar with. But it's probably more humorous than serious.
