What are you guys afraid of when updating firmware? I couldn't name a single time in over 20 years when a firmware update has caused new problems... But my old memory may fail me...

OK, seems that we could safely infer from the applicability of this regulation to the M11:

1) The Leica M11 "accounts for significant volumes of sales and trade in the EU"

2) The  amassed energy seemingly wasted by longer standby times of all those M11´s "have a significant environmental impact"

So, of course we should all be happy to update, so we could be constantly reminded of our collective importance by some sort of text message when we turn on our cameras!  We must all help in saving energy e.g. for use in running the EU activities necessary for this kind of reform work...

Somehow, I don´t feel very motivated to update.  2.2.1 works quite well, thank you.

Significantly environmental impact. Hmmmm. Till a cow farts! I’ll eat more beef to compensate!

Another easy update via Fotos for both the M11 and M11M. I swear Fotos is handling the Bluetooth and wifi switching involved smoother and faster than it used to. Both camera connections were accomplished quickly.

This time I made sure to do the reset after the update, as advised. You're presented with options on what to reset and what to keep (profiles, file numbering): I don't recall this from past updates, but haven't always performed the reset to factory settings after each firmware update. It makes the whole process pretty painless.

Both cameras performing great.

Those who see an update as evidence of poor prior software development practices: just think how they'd howl if there weren't any updates.

On the contrary, I'd say we've got solid behavioral evidence that Leica is serious about firmware development and improvement through updates.

Well, there was that time that SL2/S owners lost the ability to use the joystick to magnify with the M-Adapter L due to a new "feature" Leica gave us.

The M11 2.0.2 update caused files to be corrupted for some.

Nobody:

Germany: Let's build 20 more coal-fired power plants and try to offset the emissions with implementing a law that makes camera manufacturers safe 1 mWh from camera standby consumption.

I spent months reading posts, "Why doesn't Leica just issue a firmware update to fix it?".  Now firmware updates are coming fast and furious and now, "Why all the firmware updates?".

I continue to have no issues installing updates or resulting performance from the updates.

That's the charm of the Leica forum. People complain all the time, but they still buy Leica 🤡

No doubt the collective number of electrons required to produce and read this firmware thread is greater than the electricity Leica cameras save with the update.

You have to see bigger picture, it is the sum of all rechargeable devises in Europe.

I did same and worked well but did not ask me to reset, unless it did automatically ?

I did the update with Sd card, no problem. The camera did not start itself after the update, but when I turned it off and then on again it all worked out well.

I noticed this as well. After both updates, the cameras shut themselves down (with the power switch still in the -On- position), but they did not restart themselves.

After a considerable wait, in each case, I went ahead and switched the camera off, waited for the red light to go off, then cycled the power switch. That triggered a complete cold startup. After that, all went as described.

I *think I can remember the power cycle initiating itself on one occasion, some several updates ago. But mostly, after the camera shuts itself off following these updates, I've waited a minute or so to make sure nothing else was going to happen, and then just cycled the power switch manually.

Did I just not wait long enough?

Don't know if it was the case with you both, but for me when it automatically restarted it looked like it didn't because it reverts to the live view being off with no menus showing on the rear screen. So I just hit the LV button and the back screen came on – it had restarted.

Gaslighting is still very much active here... nothing changed.

Some of these folks that have never had issues with new firmware need to be picking lottery numbers for the rest of us.
