In the M9 days they brought out the M-E Typ-220 and when the M240 was the main current M Leica first brought out the M Typ-262 and, a few years later, the M-E Typ-262. According to 'the www' the price of the latter was some 23% below that of the M-262 (which was already priced lower than the 'mainstream' M-240). Pigs Might Yet Fly!......😸...... Philip. i own an m262 and have thought about getting another with the added bonus of an extra battery but they are quite a bit more expensive now compared to the m240 which is annoying. While the mechanics of the v5 are really solid and impressively excellent, I never had problems with flare on the v4 where the v5 was troubled once in a while. My impression: The seperate shade is much more efficient than the short integrated. And my v4 had a tab, something I always liked a lot. Totally agree! I’ve got exactly the same experience with these two lenses. The only thing is that this lens is quite easy to buy second hand and a new version will be quite expensive I fear.

I can only try to find words from sculpture. I tested two vintage 35mm version last week: the ELC version clearly won. They had a ‘method’ of alignment that clearly was better; although this was just a two sample test; but what I like to say is that I suspect the Maple Leaf adorers might just have had a different focus (pun intended). Me too, with the Wetzlar characteristics and the 160gram

Same for their slight focus shift at around f/4, so my feeling is those are exactly the same lens optically. My v4 is a German made copy though, that came after an early Canadian one that had a bit more flare actually. As far as German made lenses are concerned, a remake of v4 would be interesting for those preferring focus tabs, i guess, but otherwise i see little reason to prefer it, except that the v4 is a bit thinner (pic). I would rather expect a modern asph lens with 0.5m MFD. Would be the first 50/2 M lens with close focus capabilities since the Summicron DR from the 60s but the lens would not be cheap, i suppose, and would have to compete with the tiny and affordable VM Skopar 50/2.2 that can focus all the way from 0.5m to infinity. It is not an f/2 lens though admittedly. FWIW. Welcome, dear visitor!
