Strumbee Posted April 8 Share #1 Posted April 8 Advertisement (gone after registration) My vintage Summicron DR from 1957 just arrived and I tested in on M3 with goggles. Engineering marvel - there is an actual order how to attach the lens. Lens first, then goggles as only then the closeup focus be activated. Being eager to test it, as there is some haze, I installed it on SL2 via adapter. Love on first sight - yes the haze is there but nothing special, bit of WB play and I got it to where I like it. However activating close range focus request that goggles are on as they press on the metal ball engagement mechanism. Some sort of 3d printed add on could do the trick as to engage it ... Anybody done it?

rogxwhit Posted April 8 Share #2 Posted April 8 No, & I haven't seen this lens so I'm struggling to visualise the problem, but 3d printing would need not just the designing of the attachment but the production of a printer file ... could it not be done with simple metalworking skills directly from measurement to product? And then in use, even possibly left in situ with the close focus being actuated with a thumbscrew? Hmmm - maybe not, depending on ergonomics - but you get my drift ...
lct Posted April 8 Share #3 Posted April 8 I use the 50/2 DR in LV mode on the M11 with Visoflex 2. If the SL + adapter work the same, just remove the goggles and press the metal ball to turn the focus ring below 1m.
Jean-Michel Posted April 8 Share #4 Posted April 8 Or, why not just put the goggles on?

Strumbee Posted April 9 Author Share #6 Posted April 9 Hi guys, I correct my statement one of the most over-engineered lenses Leitz made - should go up in price immediately 1. The first thing I tried was to press the ball in to see if I can activate the close focus - no budge Welcome, dear visitor! The ball on top is just one of the three Leica engineering has designed to activate the close focus. See the 2 small bump on the lower part of the goggles attachment? This is what most likely unlocks the close focus 3. Yes I can mount the lens with goggles on but it blocks the Self-timer LED / AF Assist Lamp / Sensor for exposure metering ... 8 hours ago, Jean-Michel said: Or, why not just put the goggles on? 11 hours ago, lct said: I use the 50/2 DR in LV mode on the M11 with Visoflex 2. Stuart Richardson Posted April 9 Share #7 Posted April 9 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are you sure you are pressing the right spot? Pretty sure it is the steel ball right on the focus index that is stopping it from moving past 1m. It might be very firm, but that is what needs to be depressed, I believe. I have stolen your photograph to indicate...I hope you don't mind. Welcome, dear visitor! Nope the small bar just above it has to cross over to be able to go to close focus. That part is not the problem you pull the focus barrel and pull the small bar across with or without the goggles on. Then I thought it is just enough to press the bigger ball bearing on the lens and that would be it when the goggles are not on. Nope ... turns out the big ball bearing works like a switch. The problem being it has to click and release to unlock - while I was holding it pressed down ... On the goggles you will see there are 2 indents first that leads the ball bering in and then the middle hole that lets the ball bearing release into it when slid fully in. Awesome ... don't need anything now to activate ... but a press and release ... in a timely manner ... Still a marvel. Here are 2 photos I took just now one with normal focus range and one with closer, resized no edit jpg's ... not bad for a lens from 1957. lct Posted April 9 Share #9 Posted April 9 (edited) Your lens has a problem or the SL doesn't work the same way as the M11. On the M11, i remove the goggles and i simply press the big ball. This alone allows me to turn the focus ring below 1m, provided i pull and turn it the usual way of course. There is no need to use the goggles when the EVF is on, and there is no click to expect at all. Edited April 9 by lct

It works now - I click it hold a bit and then release and the close focus gets unlocked.
