Popflash MP-Winder Black NEW - For Leica MP, M-A, M3 & M3 Film Camera

Just saw this on sale. I ordered 1 for my M3, I figure for that price it's worth a shot (although it could end up on a MP if I talk myself into 1 for Xmas 😁, I gotta stay off KEH's sales site)

Too easy to let go of and the film springs back so you start again, too easy to scuff the top plate with the crank or gnarly fingers. If you are lacking speed the Cameraworks Rapid Load kit for the M3 and M2 is far more effective.

I was tempted to get that when I got my M3 but found a original Leica Quick Load kit for a few bucks more and got it instead. I figured if I ever had to sell the M3 I could pass the cost on with the camera.

Having started out with an M4 in the '60s, when I added an M3 I thought it needed the fast-load kit, so I got one. I soon removed it and went back to the stock spool. The M3 frame counter won't reset to zero until you remove the spool, so having to pull out the fast load spool every time seemed to defeat the advantage. Makes more sense on an M2.

The Cameraworks Quick load kit is clearly a superior design because there's no need to remove the spool to reset the counter.

That's good to know. I was tempted to get that but figured since I only plan on running 1 roll of B/W when I use the M3 and waiting until I get home to unload the film I can pull the spool then.

The biggest reason I got the original 1 was the M3 I had in the 80's came with it and I figured get the 1 I saw at Roberts Camera when I got the "new" 1 this year.

That's the day I bought it. I had DAG service it and the 50mm 1.5 Summitar lens. The meter was dead of course but I got a KEK to use with it. I finally got the chance to test it out last week and I'm waiting for the lab to soup and scan the film. I'll set up something myself when I retire next year

I've tried three different rewinders: the MP-Winder by Popflash, the SOOM by SOOMUU INC., and the one by Camera Obscura. All three were the black models to go on a Leica MP black paint. Of the three, the Camera Obscura has by far the best ergonomics and the Popflash the worst. The SOOM is in the middle and I was happy with it until I tried the Camera Obscura model. The other issue with the Popflash is the black anodized finish really doesn't look good on a Leica MP when you compare it to the matching black paint from SOOMUU or Camera Obscura. I need to sell my Popflash and SOOM rewinders now that I've tried them all. It really does make rewinding the MP much faster if you get a good rewinder. I never have issues with the Camera Obscura model slipping from my fingers and I've probably put about 50-ish rolls through it. The Popflash was very finicky in my hands. Also I do agree that a reminder will end up scratching the top plate. Don’t get a rewinder if you like to baby your cameras.

Thank you for your positive feedback on my rewind levers! Great to hear that you like it! I am glad that the amount of research and testing of the levers has paid off.

(I own Camera Obscura Elburg)

Interesting. If this one doesn't hold up I'll keep it in mind. I'm planning on getting another metered M body this year and the MP looks interesting.
