So what exactly is the allure of a Safari M11?

You get to photograph lions and not just cats

There are actually three matching lenses, suitable or not. Safari is not just pith helmets and khaki pants on rich folks in Land Cruisers chasing the big 5. It can also mean display queens in certain contextual conotations.

Not my safaris - 500 mm minimum focal length and leave the Texans to their Botswana nirvanas & safari suits. Those are zoos in the bush. A luxury camp is one that has a genuine flushing toilet. What idiot would pay 5000$ a person a day to keep up with the Joneses? Of course, his and hers satellite phones are provided, with a uniformed flunky to carry them.  Chasing wildlife is highly unethical and can result in a guide being fired. You are there to observe with as little disturbance as possible.

I remember quite a while ago - at Lake Kariba a small 4 tents camp. Quite informal washed-once-too-often cargo shorts and disreputable T shirt type.
There was a minuscule dining tent and when we walked in, behind the small table and lit up by one lantern, side by side and facing me,  were sitting a honeymoon couple from London with the Harrods labels still on their formal “ Safari Suits.”, and yes, wearing pith helmets. I had to pretend an attack of Gyppy Tummy to cover up my mirth…

I always found it funny that Leicas Safari models never offer a single lens that is suitable for safari’s

If your pictures aren't good enough you're not close enough.

So 2000 limited production run. May be trickier to get hands on this. Time to get to your local Leica store.

the M10-P safari came out with 1500 and Leica struggled to sell them all. My local leica had two for 6 months before selling. So 2000, think that every one that wants one will get one

MSRP of the M10-P was $7995

MSRP of the Safari variant was $8495

So there's the question if the Safari colorway was worth the $450 premium over the base M10-P.

What's interesting is the Reporter paint scheme is currently selling for a $2000 premium on the used market vs a black M10-P ($7k vs $5k). Reporter seems to be a bigger hit considering Leica extended it to the Q2 and SL2.

Absolutely. $450 in Leica universe is like 45 cents in the normal world.

It is because M Reporter was only made in 450 copies versus 1500 of the Safari. And it was only a hit with M, the Q and SL in Reporter livery did actually not sell like hot cakes.

Good point. I wonder how many Reporters are being used vs hoarded as collectors items.

Mine was heavily used and gently abused until I joyfully traded it for a mint Safari (which will experience the same faith).

If I recall correctly, yours wasn't even part of the 450!

The Rolex Daytona watch was a complete flop when launched in the 1960's.   Collectibles are an interesting thing.

There's a "limited" M11-P coming first week of May and its rumoured to be green.

I hope that’s true, as for once in my life, I’ve got the funds at the same time as the camera release!!🤣

Try re-reading post #44

That might be a bit subtle for me!

The question is, how soon before you fly will you have the necessary equipment?
