Also, why would Leica discontinue just a silver MP? Surely it would be all Silver M's? U mean like the M11 Silver? So maybe slowly the silver option is limited only to a few models (M11P, etc.)? https://leicarumors.com/2023/10/09/silver-leica-m11-camera-listed-as-discontinued-in-japan.aspx/ https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1832306/ Edited March 25 by AnakChan

wattsy Posted March 26 Share #22 Posted March 26 20 hours ago, Helge said: 2003 ist definetely long ago 😀 But you see, the MP was already in 2010 (7 years later) double the price, that was an average inflation of 10%/year, so the major price increase seem to have happened in the first years after the new MP was introduced, not today. Calculating the increase from 2010 (US 4990$) up to today 5995$, an increase of approx. 20% or 1,2%/year average inflation over those 14 years. I would assign this major increase basically directly after introduction to the major financial crisis Leica did go through in ~2007/2008. I should have known that my throwaway comment would bring out the fact checkers. 😂 I dare say you are right but I can only comment about the UK price which, because of changing exchange rates, etc., probably did not directly followed the Euro price. I don't know what the official RRP at the time was but I bought a brand new black paint MP from Ffordes in 2011 for £2,799 and that's not really double Steve's 2003 price. I suppose my other points of reference are the two M-A cameras I bought around ten years ago which were something like £3275 (I think about £100 less than the MP price). Since then, I do seem to recall the price for the film bodies drifting up to something like £4,000 but I wasn't aware that it had jumped to £5,000. I obviously haven't been paying much attention during the last few years (I've just had a browse of the Leica online shop and I can see that a 35mm Summilux now costs £5,240!).😂

Leica promises are rather like a politician’s promises! That said most of the parts can probably be machined or 3D printed or taken from other M donors if necessary. It does not mean that there is no supply of spare parts. Normally they strive for at least ten years service. 25 years odes sound optimistic, but is by no means impossible for a mechanical camera.
Borna Posted May 21 Share #27 Posted May 21 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is actually funny. In November when i visited Frankfurt over the weekend, I went to Leica and had a chat about MP. I have been interested in one in exchange for my old M6. I spoke with the saleswoman and she would say "We have both silver and black paint in stock, but I would recommend silver because... Who knows it will still be here in the near future" I thought that was funny a remark and did not think more about it until I read the news of the silver MP Anyhow, I bought the BP MP during February

Simon74 Posted May 21 Share #30 Posted May 21 Ah! they're back online in the UK store too now. That is strange, because not only they were removed from the website but also the instruction manuals were removed from the page too! Still, in the shop page the black one is unavailable. rmueller Posted May 21 Share #31 Posted May 21 I don't know, hard to believe IMO. My dealer in Heidelberg got some new MP's, black and silver last week and the online-shop says two day delivery . And why would Leica add the MP (and M-A and M6) as option to the CCD sensor corrosion upgrade program for the M9/MM1 (https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2025/05/leica-adds-analog-m-options-to-ccd-sensor-corrosion-upgrade-program/) Maybe temporary out-of-stock but discontinued? I don't think so. Regards, Ralf
