It had my initials on the number plate, JA 000, and upon checking, the keys were in the ignition. Would I have been in a defensible position had I driven off in it? That's a beauty Jaapv, not sure but it could be the 3.5 litre, seeing your photo' here takes me back.........What was the colour, looks to be black? My father had use of one that belonged to his boss in London at the time, the boss bought the Bentley, a 1929 4.5 litre Black Label Tourer, but couldn't drive it as he didn't have a driving license and as our family car was utterly unreliable Dad had use of the Bentley pretty much all the time, a lot of fun but a beast to drive, a 2.5 ton lump of metal, great in a straight line but physically hard to corner especially at slow speeds. Bugatti called the Bentley "the fastest lorry in the world". for good reason. When the family car was once again out of action I actually took my driving test in "our" Bentley, the examiner couldn't believe that I turned up for the test in the car, ( sitting on an extra cushion so as to see through the windshield ), it all went ok until it was the time for the three point turn, the Bentley had an awfully large turning circle and when I got to turn number five exhausted from the effort and still not 180º from the start of the exercise, he said "enough, if you can handle this beast you will be fine with everything else" and passed me. The "Emergency Stop" part of the test was interesting too, Bentleys used to go fast for those days but stopping them quickly involved a certain amount of prayer too. As I was admiring it and trying to work out what model it was some guy sat outside a bar up the road started shouting over to me. I immediately thought he’s telling me to get away from it but he actually said jump in it and have a proper look so I did! He didn’t seem to know too much about it and said he bought it because it looked so cool and was fun to take friends out in on nice days! According to the DVLA it’s a 1951 so I assume it’s a rebodied MKVl. Welcome, dear visitor!
