There is some sort of correlation between serial numbers and date of manufacture.

I do, however understand that matches of serial numbers are sometimes allocated randomly.

£5k for an M11 with a warranty is a good deal.

There’s a reason some ‘like new’ M11s are floating around at a tempting discount.

What reason do you have in mind, if i may ask? My M11 is from May 2022 (5594***). It works perfectly with the current 2.2.1 firmware. Do you think earlier (or later?) bodies might have problems?

I agree. No issues at all.

I bought ‘used’ like new, went for the highest serial number, when I received, manufacture date was December 23, I’m happy. It also never had last couple of firmware updates installed which I was also happy about.

Think about why people are offloading them before jumping in.

I’ve got three, I’m using them plenty. All are like new. At some point I may want to turn one of them into something else. That sale would not be due to any issue at all.

You’ve got 14 days to send it back if there’s an issue and a warranty of 6 months.

With the latest firmware these cameras are excellent.

I also think we are getting to the stage where some people are getting ready for an M12 or M-EVF. Additionally there is quite a strand of influencer “Why I’ve Upgraded to Leica” slash “Why I’ve sold all my Leica gear” churn where people are encouraged to by an M and then realise it’s a damn sight easier using something with auto everything. I love these cameras but they are not for everyone or everything!

Glad to hear yours are problem-free.

But tell me—are either of you putting your M11 up for sale at a tempting discount?

No, but if I did it wouldn't mean I had issues with it.

Most digital cameras will lose value unfortunately.

You mean a tempting mark-up, i guess :D If i were to sell my M11, it would be to buy an M12, so i would not expect any discount sorry.

I've just bought an "As New" M11 from MPB for £5K. The camera is in mint condition, came with all paperwork and accessories, and looks like it's never been used. The camera is late Nov 2022 still running 2.0.2 FW so I think it's probably been sitting in its box for a long time. Everything seems OK and the range finder is focussing at infinity perfectly

The MPB price is well below any other retailers that I can find so, fingers crossed, I think I got a good deal. As has been mentioned, they have a few for sale. Note that you can see the serial numbers on the hot shoe plate in the MPB photos.

I've bought and sold quite a bit of kit from MPB and their buy and sell prices are usually (but not always) the best that I can find. Selling is very easy and after free DPD posting I usually get paid in two or three days. A few times they have increased the payment to me after reviewing the items.

I have no connection with MPB so this isn't an advert, and I appreciate that other people's experience may not have been so positive

Same experience with MPB there with my kits trade in process, now with M11-P from them and everything OK. They communicating well no issues at all in any process where it was with them.

From the ambiguous title my mind thought it mean less than 5K US$ LOL!  Even I might take the plunge on an M11 for that!  I've bought from MPB and KEH and had very few issues and those were always sorted quickly with no hassle.  Never bought a Leica digital body from other than an authorised Leica dealer though, despite that KEH is (or at least was) one.  I found the second-hand prices on digitals at the smaller shops was competitive.  My M8, M9 and one M240 were ex-demo, and my other M240 was Leica Pre-Owned-Certified.  All with some iteration of factory warranty.  Bought Canon and Sony digitals from KEH/MPB though, but we're talking <$1K cameras.

No idea why anyone would sell with MPB. I think they offered about 2.5k for mine when I checked before Christmas - probably even less now. Honestly you might as well just sell it privately or give it to a friend. All those bodies on there under 5k must have been paid peanuts.

For that reason I wouldn’t buy from MPB personally - just because I think they rip off photographers with what they pay for gear. So many better companies to support.

Glad I sold mine before the rush although the prices were already coming down and I did lose a little bit.

Honestly the M11 has a pretty bad rep too.  Not unjustified IMO. The M10-R goes for more now if you can find one.
I feel a sense of relief not owning one any more. But everyone should try one if they’re interested and have the means - that way you can make your mind up from personal experience which is the only way of course.

I’ll certainly consider trying an M12 depending on the updates and design of that model and how many of my grievances are  dealt with!! Actually, thinking about it, no, I probably wouldn’t.

Hi,

There few groups of people - one who is working professionally for the money with their camera gear I and calculating how many sessions they must do to cover their spendings and never care about value in year or two or other.

Another group hobbyist  where buying cameras for them self depends on their affordability and this part don't care because spending for process or emotion and that means money where spent don't exist and never was :D

and third group with overestimated mind about gear, looking for "best" value, or payback :D  maybe quality, or on GAS - nobody knows :)  where struggling on something like "how much I will loose after period of time"  but not process or result this gear can provide to them.

Ha! I think you have this all backwards. Pros typically need to hang onto their gear much longer than the typical well heeled amateur who gets bored and wants the next shiny object that comes along every six months to a year because they think it will somehow magically make their photographs 'better.' Pros just don't get paid enough to be swapping out gear all the time.  Believe me, we don't, even the best ones.

Looks like Wex have one for closer to £4k too if anyone was reading this and wanting to try one.

That’s actually a more reasonable price tag (4-5k) for an M11 body IMO, including new.
