FrozenInTime Posted February 19 Share #2 Posted February 19 Significantly smaller than the first reprint ( not necessarily a bad thing ).
Overgaard Posted March 1 Share #3 Posted March 1 I like it, and what was an insert to the SEIDL edition (now sold out) is in the back of this one. Perfect gift to give, I ordered a few 🙂
Jeff S Posted March 2 Share #4 Posted March 2 I’m fortunate to have a fine copy of the first edition.

The reproduction is first-rate. Steidl’s edition also had fine production values. I sold my first edition when the binding was in shreds and the value was decent. Bought the new Fondation edition when it came out later. Nice to have. but the reproduction is meh.

Nice to have. but the reproduction is meh. I had another, lesser, copy decades ago, but my main book dealer at the time knew my preference for fine condition books and dust jackets. So when he came across a wonderful one, he put it aside for me. My collection is full of similar material, although once in a while I’ve also bought some reproductions to save some favorite first editions from overuse. Never did that with this HCB book, however. It would be more interesting even than: "What book are you reading right now?" in the Bar, because these are photo books you return to. I have the original "Images à la sauvette", bought on ebay from Southern Europe, years before Steidl published the new print. It was a lucky find, discovered by chance only a few hours after he posted it as a "buy it now", kept in excellent condition and below market, from a gentleman specialised in topless girlie magazines from the seventies. Got the Steidl reprint also, as soon as it appeared.

Not really. I have relatively few doubles (like Frank’s The Americans) because the popularity of the book has led reproduction alternatives, not because it gets more attention. Other times I’ve bought a second copy of the original edition only because I subsequently found one in better condition. Some of my favorites are more obscure and have no decent modern equivalents. Plus, my tastes, interests and buying habits have evolved greatly since beginning to buy in the 70’s. Same with vintage prints.
