Could we just close this thread start a new one on the EV-M camera?

No, think of it as a waiting room open to discussion. There’s literally nothing left to say about an EVF-M that’s hasn’t already been said.

Until there are new leaks or a release, we are probably better off talking about the football or our favourite recipes. We are 90 pages in and have learnt that it may be called the M11-V. Quite impressive really…

So we obviously need to work harder and not derail towards football, mediocre medieval mercantilism (MMM) and others 😅

And don't declare it when returning to the USA or do the right thing and pay the tax on entry?

Bwahaha! Who does that?!

Here in NZ you can even buy net of tax for many things (including cameras and watches)   The store will sight your travel documents and you collect the goods airside as you’re leaving. You only need to go overseas - so three hours to Sydney, have a nice weekend and then come home. Getting a refund of the 10% Australian sales tax on things you bought whilst there as a tourist. 🤔

I always chuckle at Leica rumours.. if you don’t think you only know what Leica want you to consider how the Q3 43 was a well kept secret till the day of release!

Ironically, the introduction of the original Q was the first (and only AFAIK) time the Rumors site was brought in as a mutually agreed “insider”, as explained back in 2015.

He’s had some successful predictions, and some dreadful failures, notably when he doubled down on the release timing of a Leica C/M.  Mostly it’s all about clicks, right or wrong.

I’ve been thinking about the 11-V battery life and I wonder if the EVF would drain it down, and negate the benefits the M11 battery brought over from the M10.

On the other hand, maybe it would be the same as if you shot with LCD or visioflex always on?

To be honest, since this thread started however long ago, I’ve lost interest and am happy enough with an SL3/S option and M glass.

But does it really make sense for Leica, if they released a new M, to go for an EVF & M12?! I understand that the old armchair Leica men and those who always don‘t want to make progress/change anything might complain but that is probably the problem as this community is still quite big… but nevertheless, from an evolutionary product perspective for me it would only make sense to release one new say M12 that has an EVF.

Leica appears iterative in approach which is sensible. Announce a M11-EVF first and you’ve only got one new bit of tech to get right. You will also probably sell plenty to new users and curious existing users. Later release a M12 and you’ll sell that too to the same crowd. Release both at the same time and you’ll have a lot of new tech with potential problems at the same time and probably split the purchasers into M11EVF vs M12, losing sales.

Just my tuppenny worth.

Leica has been on a 5 year cycle since the M240, and they've fallen into a pattern of issuing new versions regularly the cycle: -D, -P, Monochrom, now a Safari. If they issue a M11-V, they have another 5 years to decide if a M12-V is worth it, and what lessons to learn from the first one. I doubt they'd issue a M12-V early in the M12 cycle.

I think so too but It will be interesting to see as if the V is very very successful then it could make a difference to that cycle. Otherwise the V will always be released shortly before the next generation and will run a lot of its cycle on older tech. Leica tend to want to have a streamlined production workflow. If the best seller is older gen, that may make things more laborious with having two generations overlapping on the production line. All speculation of course. I wonder what the pricing will be. Logically the rangefinder is an expensive item to manufacture so you would think this model would come in lower but in recent times, Leica have been squeezing the market harder than usual. My guess would be around the €7k mark.

I’m afraid V version will suffer some sort of firmware/software failure to begin with, like the early days of M11, frozen kind of drama. German are not good at software, adding an electronic view adds more complexity that Germans can’t handle. Look at SAP, not a sane mind can figure out how that thing works 😀

Agreed! Before investing into a system that is even more error prone than the M11 due to internal complexity, I believe you need to wait a couple of years while others have to frustratingly deal with Leica CS ;)

Nothing is supposed to be really new in the EVF-M. As it was imagined here and elsewhere, it would just be an M11 with a built-in EVF. Novelty would be for the M12, reason why it would only come next i suppose. Just a guess.
