This is my wife’s iPhone 13 mini with my Lux grip attached. Feels secure and easy to use. My only issue would be the limitations of the Lux app with a two camera iPhone 1

I use the Lux with my iPhone 13 Pro Max and I think the quality is better than the Apple rendition

For those asking about redeeming the free one year subscription to the Lux Pro version of the App, provided with the purchase of the Lux Grip, when you've already subscribed, the terms and conditions provide s follows:

Quote

If you already have a Leica LUX PRO subscription, your free 12-month period will begin immediately after your existing subscription ends. Once the free period concludes, the subscription will automatically renew as a standard plan unless you cancel at least 24 hours prior to the end of the free period.

I scanned the QR code, and the free year has been added to my current subscription.

I've only played with the Lux Grip a bit with my iPhone 16 Pro, and it works well so far.  I've assigned the side button to the Lux Pro App, and that also functions well.  It would be good if the Lux Pro App loaded automatically when you wake up the Grip, but otherwise all works well.

The grip was excellent taking video with Final Cut Camera and a Shure MV88 mic plugged in.

Are you able to use the Grip with Final Cut?  Or is it just that your phone is more stable?  It would be great to control Final Cut using the Grip ...

The grip now seems to be working correctly for me. Turn it on, open the Lux app, and it's available. I had to unpair it and repair it a couple of times, but I hope this works going forward.

Apple gave me a refund for the unused portion of my paid Lux Pro app. I just had a monthly subscription while testing the app.

In case of interest to other grip owners, I fitted a simple lanyard to my Lux grip for a bit more security. Peak design cuff attached to a quarter inch thread camera bolt found on Amazon. All fits into the Grip case, together with my Shure mic.

I've got the grip working on my iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I got an iPhone 16e today for review and testing. I was able to pair the grip, but I don't have the aperture mode options. The camera does do portrait modes, but does the Leica Lux app need two cameras to do its processing?

Yes, the grip shutter works to start, and later, to stop video recording using Final Cut Camera on my iPhone. The Fn buttons on the grip are specific to the Leica app, though.

please let me ask: I think iPhone 16e comes without magsafe - so we can‘t fix the grip, right?

I’ve just listened to Kirk’s podcast, posted today on his photoactive.co website, all about his experiences with LUX grip and app, with lots of examples to look at too. Strongly recommended if you’ve got one, or are thinking of getting one. As I am, does anyone know how I can track one down in the UK?

The Leica grip came today. I have been using the Fjorden grip for a month now. I am going to keep the Fjorden but not the Leica. The Fjorden is safer as I can use it with their case, as long they manufacture them. There is no chance of it falling off. Moreover, it is lower profile and I prefer the look and feel. Plus it’s $100 less. My main concern is that Fjorden stops making the cases, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

I very much enjoy the Fjorden. This week we took a vacation and I forgot the cameras I planned to bring (907x 100c,A7CR, and Q2 Mono) but I had the grip and it was a reasonable choice. I think in the end I would have only used the Q2 Mono on this trip, TBH.

So far, I’ve enjoyed mine.  I have sent some comments to Leica - particularly that, when you open the Lux App (either from the phone or from the side button), the grip should automatically wake up and vice versa, when you turn on the grip the Lux App should start up automatically.

Currently, it can be hard to wake up the grip to full functionality when it has gone into standby.  Teething issues - it’s a good concept, in my view.

So, I've been using the grip and the app for a few weeks now. While it is convenient and works as it should most of the time, when you are at a very wide aperture sometimes the bokeh looks a little off and sometimes fake. It's hard to control because it's not real bokeh. I mean, a single subject and it usually works, but in a complex scene the bokeh can get "confused" I think. As such, it won't replace my Q or X100vi. I like it for wide aperture portraits and narrow aperture landscapes, so, it has it's place, just not a replacement. (for me) Cheers.

I agree with the Fjorden Grip being the better Grip(by far).  I bought mine before the Leica Grip was available and it is a permanent addition to my phone.  I don't think the marriage between Leica and Fjorden will be "long lasting" unless Leica promote and make the Fjorden available at their outlets.  The "Fjorden App" needs some development to be on par with Leica Lux app, but there is no cost.  Let the market decide...

  • 3 weeks later...

It’s been a while since anyone posted here. Time to put that right. I got my LUX Grip this week, and am discovering that there’s an enormous amount that you can do with it if you take the time to figure it all out. But firstly, the physical bit: it grips absolutely solidly on my 16 Pro Max, and I find it very comfortable to carry around holding the grip with my right thumb just round the front of the phone, when it feels totally secure. I usually wear trousers with a cargo pocket and it’s fine in there, though I accept less so in a normal trouser pocket. (I think I’ll get the case, but not in stock in the UK as I write.) I haven’t used the Fjorden grip but it doesn’t look as if it provides as much support, although it’s obviously easier carry around.

But the big reason to prefer this Grip may be the outstanding integration with the LUX app, offering a richer feature set than the Fjorden. I hadn’t previously used the app, but I’m really impressed by the ability to select from a large range of lenses, apertures, Looks etc. And not least the ability to change your mind afterwards about Look, focus etc. The whole thing makes for an appealing, comprehensive package and I’m not regretting my (admittedly expensive) purchase.

Finally, thanks to Kirk, whose contributions here and Podcast helped to persuade me to go ahead.

The Lux app has been updated with a new lens simulation, 90 Thambar-M (which looks permanently out of focus, but I haven’t tried it properly yet) and EV control in aperture mode (yet to work out how to find this brightness control). Will play with these at the weekend.

I was going to write a post on here for a couple of days.  I use the Lux App on my 13 Pro Max.  I was looking at the Fjorden site and there seems to be a few options for fitting - none that appear similar to the Leica version ( although Fjorden is owned by Leica as its site proudly proclaims)

I know the Fjorden is about £100 less than the Leica.  There are some conflicting opinions ( as there always are when a bunch of photographers get together ) Checking the Leica site their version still seems out of stock.  Is it worth the wait and the extra £100 ( whilst I use Leica gear, £100 spend has to be justified - to she who must be obeyed )

As I said I use the app, more so than the Apple version and some form of grip would be useful
