Simbo Posted February 5 Share #1 Posted February 5 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’ve got 2 R6 bodies and a plethora of lenses which have been underused for sometime, and I’m currently having a sort out of my camera gear, as I’m currently sitting at an absurd 11 cameras (only the 2 Leicas) and 12 lenses. Part of this is planning on selling my DSLR body, and one of the R6’s to fund a new digital camera (no I can’t afford a Leica), leaving me with a nice film setup and a smaller more convenient digital camera that I can mix and match lenses on, including my Leica lenses. However when looking at my R6’s I noticed the DOF lever is sticking, so I guess it needs service/repair…… but I’m seeing lots of warnings about servicing on here and not much in the way of people who are reliable. So does anyone have any recommendations in the South East/Surrey area? I know there’s repairers in London but I don’t like going up there if I can avoid it. I know there used to be a place in Lewes which has now shut down sadly. Any advice would be greatly welcome……. I’d also be interested in reccomendations of places to sell it. I had a quote from one shop as a trade in against my new camera and was a bit underwhelmed, even before realising it had a sticky lever, so I suspect they’d try and push me down more too. Simbo Posted February 6 Author Share #3 Posted February 6 I would be surprised if it actually needs spare parts, the lever still moves, but it needs to be manually moved back into place

I understand that Red Dot Cameras in London do have their own repair person, and if RDC use them, you would know that they are reliable. You could give RDC a phone call to see what the possibilities are, and even if you don't want to travel into town, you could always post or courier the camera to RDC. (If you've looked around this Forum, you will already know that at least one outfit should not be touched with a ten foot sterilised barge pole.) 250swb Posted February 6 Share #5 Posted February 6 (edited) Definitely don't go to 'Camera Obscura' who are in that kind of Southern region of the UK that Northerners are naturally wary of 😆, https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/332251-camera-obscura-repairs-uk-problem-😔/ But the R3 and onward series DOF lever seems to be a common problem with cameras on eBay and it is often broken off, so all I'd suggest with yours is if you use it try to get it fixed or if you don't often use it as a backup use the lens DOF scale on the lens instead. earleygallery Posted February 6 Share #6 Posted February 6 Try exercising it a bit, it could just be a bit sticky. I haven’t used either but would trust either Red Dot as per above or Aperture (also in London). OTOH it might be worth trying that trade in, if they offer you enough bearing in mind the likely repair cost, or put it on eBay but do mention the sticky lever (presumably the camera will still work correctly as long as you don’t use the DoF preview)?
