IkarusJohn Posted February 1 Share #1 Posted February 1 Advertisement (gone after registration) Lots of discussion about the M Edition 60, and talk of investment of late. Many people have owned them, but many have also sold them. Why? When the camera was released, I loved the idea. I had never been a fan of the M(240) series, but this camera removed much of my dislike - no video, no LCD - just the sensor, aperture, shutter and ISO, and only DNG. Perfect! Others scorned it. I ordered one straight away, and asked Leica to thread the shutter release. Comparing the price to that of an M-P and the 35 Summilux (FLE), there was little to no premium for the beautiful stainless steel version. Then I got cold feet and canceled the order. It was a lot of money. The camera sold poorly, and there seemed to be plenty of new cameras sitting about and available at a discount, so I relented and bought one for well less than the original price. And I used it. A lot. But then, I sold it. It wasn’t the lack of strap lugs. In use, than didn’t bother me at all. It was a beautiful thing to look at, and I loved the lens. To look at. I have never liked the images I have got from the 35 Summilux (FLE). I’ve had two of them. Using the camera with other lenses was fine, but somehow the camera looked odd. For me, the camera was all about the system. I also found the camera a bit thick, compared to my Monochrom. So, I sold it for a good price, without losing much, and bought the M10-D when it came along. Much happier. Why have others sold their M60s? Or not? 1

m-856 Posted February 2 Share #2 Posted February 2 Hello Leica friends, First of all, I'm a newbie here in the forum and use a translator. But I've been taking photos with Leica cameras since 2017. First about me. My first was the M240, before that analog and other digital cameras. Then I bought an M3 at the same time, whose negatives I photographed and edited. After some practice, I got along well with the M240 version, but I also liked the photography experience with the simple M3. When I then saw the M60, it was clear to me that I wanted one. The only thing that bothered me was the coating on the stainless steel and of course the purchase price. I now finally have a used one without a lens, from which I removed the paint and coating and which also goes well with the old grayed chrome lenses. I'm not interested in selling the M60 because it does a good job for me and I really like it now. My digital M3... Welcome, dear visitor! Seems the investment of a M60 was not expected to loose as much, no lug straps didn’t help…🤔
jmr Posted February 4 Share #5 Posted February 4 (edited) I’ve still got mine and I wouldn’t sell it. I used it as my only camera and lens for 3 years or so from 2014 when I bought it new from Leica Manchester. Nowadays it sits in my bookcase looking perfect and like the thing of beauty it always was, while I enjoy my M11-D with a 35 Lux Steel Rim reissue. I’ve evidently not moved on that much over the past 10 years, but I’m happy enough😉 Edited February 4 by jmr

Did you take the camera apart and put the top and bottom plates into an acid bath or something? Quite a major task I think but it worked really well, congratulations … Also your half case has strap rings rather than a built-in neck strap so you have no problem having a wrist strap instead. I wonder who made it? Nicest one I’ve seen. And your yellow paracord wrist strap is very cool too — casual but stylish and no doubt plenty strong enough … Edited February 6 by Datsch
m-856 Posted February 6 Share #7 Posted February 6 Advertisement (gone after registration) nice that someone likes the camera, thank you! I didn't take it apart, unfortunately it was more manual work than I initially thought. Under the clear coat was the coating in the color typical for the M60. I finished it off with 2000 grit sandpaper and chrome polish. But no matter, the result is what counts for me in the end... Yes, the half case fits perfectly around the camera. According to the previous owner, it's a customized one from Funper. I've now worked on a 35/2 stainless steel one from LLL in exactly the same way. Now I'm selling my cheap M60 combo, no, no - I just think it's too beautiful and practical for that. ISO capability is more than sufficient in daylight. best wishes
LeicaM60 Posted February 13 Share #8 Posted February 13 Had both M10-D and M60. Sold the M10-D, kept the M60. Such a pure experience and perhaps the most beautiful and unique special edition Leica has ever made. Would have been nice to have the M10 slimmer body and high ISO performance but nothing is perfect…

m-856 Posted February 21 Share #10 Posted February 21 All you need is masking tape, 2 sheets of sandpaper, 800 and 2000, toothpicks, "a little" time and patience.
m-856 Posted February 21 Share #11 Posted February 21 Disadvantage: after that it is no longer a collector's item Advantage: since no one would buy it anymore, you can use it every day with a clear conscience...

darylgo Posted March 15 Share #15 Posted March 15 Sold a year ago, it sat on ebay for the better part of 2023-2024 with great interest shown by individuals from time to time. There were many low offers from ebay resellers or who knows what they are. When batteries for the M240 became an issue I also sold it. The M60 sat in my closet mostly and while it is a thing of beauty the novelty wore off and I was shooting my M10-R. The M60 lessons continue to influence my shooting, image review has been set to off with the M10-R and others. Seeing images of the M60 body and lens brings a smile to my face and the memories of having owned a great camera and the further thought that it may be the last great Leica special edition....Leica has not released special editions or variations of body styles lately. The M11 has not been issued in anything substantive, the SL3 has none, the Q3 has none. Where are the Safari bodies and lenses, the variations of the original Q were numerous, fewer with the Q2. Names of photographer special editions or ping pong paddle red cladding are missing, no red lenses. Perhaps I shouldn't have sold it, the thought transits my frontal cortex from time to time only to wane with the next new shiny object.
