Multishot with 100 mm Macro Panasonic Handheld > but I had to practice and keep camera very still. no breathing. These two shots show how well the AF works. I aimed at two different sections of the image and 1. the camera focused on the reflection 2. Camera focused on the lens behind the glas. With this kind of problem I always switch to M (focus) on my Sl2-S- Neo way the AF of the 2 could have solved the problem. I also tested it on people and I can tell you that is worked flawless. Thanx to the Leica Store in Hamburg that let me test the camera. https://leica-camera.com/de-DE/stores-und-haendler/leica-stores-weltweit/leica-store-hamburg And thanx to the very accommodating staff of the shop. These people know their craft. It's located near the center of Hamburg and there are many nice spots to take pictures near by . cheers Peter
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! algrove Posted January 28 Share #2 Posted January 28 (edited) Takes some breathing practice especially with lenses 50mm and longer. 21mm or 28mm are much easier. Edited January 28 by algrove

And wha would you say is a success in numbers? Maybe you can enlighten us?

And wha would you say is a success in numbers? Maybe you can enlighten us? You don't need to be an oracle to understand how markets work https://petapixel.com/2024/03/22/leica-selling-l-mount-cameras-is-tougher-than-selling-a-q-or-an-m/ SL3S is past gen camera, refurbished S5IIX of 2023, which is a shame in 2025, a lot of people waited for Leica SL3S to be a stellar hybrid camera which Leica SL2S was on the release, the only drawback it had was CDAF not suitable for video. Enlighten me, how does Leica SL3S can compete with other mirrorless cameras on the segment when it loses in all categories for which people buy mirrorless cameras for pro work? It's stellar for night photography with ISO 200k, but it's not that better than SL2S in that regard, autofocus is not on par with competition, blackouts of EVF are horrendous, buffer is not suitable for sports, pastgen sensor, no incamera RAW, when Sigma FP can do that (part of L mount alliance) Think critical, if Leica M is stellar and has no competition in rangefinder segment, Leica Q is amazing and has not real competition if full frame compact cameras, Leica SL has the toughest competition and they came up with such subpar release. I can go on and on pointing out flaws of that release, but don't want to, as it's not going to change your mind. 6000$ price tag is going to be 3000$ in 3 years, Leica SL2, SL2S nowadays prices are not going to lie.
jaapv Posted January 31 Share #18 Posted January 31 Enlighten me. You may be right with the drawbacks you mention; a yes/ no discussion has no value, but consider how few cameras Leica is going to sell to pros for whom those considerations count. Of no commercial interest. For their market the SL2S is already far beyond anything the target user is going to demand., let alone the SL3S which offers the marginal upgrade in AF which is the only thing needed for their target customer. And yes, it may be that there will be a clearance sale in three or four years. Who is going to wait for so long? Leica has no interest in huge sales numbers. I know for a fact that their prognosis for the S cameras was 1000 per year at introduction.1% of the market is their niche. Leicas are bought because people like to use them, the handling, the images, the design, etc. Or just because they want to buy into the brand and can afford to. Not because of cutting edge features.

We will wait and see how good sales of SL3S will be, to my knowledge and internet monitoring activity it has little to no praise from any community from petapixel, dpreview to youtube comments on Leica channels. Everyone points out how strange for Leica to release a pastgen camera in 2025 to compete and exercises in sarcasm regarding Leica tax

So you tested the camera? Or are you regaining to yt videos that you saw of people telling you their opinion? I have tested the camera 3 times in different situations and if I would have to decide which Leica camera I would buy today (mirrorless) , then I would buy the SL3-S. Regarding the AF. I tested Canon and Sony a lot and I own the fx3 and I worked with other Sony cameras and Nikon cameras too and my impression of this autofocus is that it’s up to date and there will come some firmware updates that will improve the AF even more. so maybe you take a walk to a Leica store and test the camera. But if you tested the camera and found that it’s to slow , then maybe tell us what you take pictures of? Do you shoot sports ? Birds ? Highspeed Cars? Rockets ? I tested the af with people and with fast moving cars and with speedlight and with multishot > multishot with 100 mm macro from Panasonic < works perfect 👌 And with summicron and summiliux. Both very fast and not to compare with my sl2-s. So I am curious? Did you hold the camera in your hands? by the way > it’s smaller ! What I like a lot …
