dickgillberg Posted January 26 Share #1 Posted January 26 Advertisement (gone after registration) I thought that’ll want to share my reflection on my first M11 camera. I’ve used all M digital cameras from M8 to M11. My recent camera is a M10P. Didn’t bother to change to M11 before the glossy paint were released (I don’t like aluminium and I don’t want silver). I have read much about them of course. The first thing I appreciate most is the battery and the capability to charge it anywhere, in my car, with a power bank etc. The camera doesn’t come with a charger but as it seems it doesn’t matter at all. The camera produces files that are good and the magenta issues that some have is in my opinion a personal thing I’ve used both Nikon and Canon systems and there is always something I don’t like but when I do my pictures I make them as I like, one thing to alter than another is what I always had to deal with when it comes to digital files (I never publish a jpg from camera). The capability to downsize the pictures is nice feature for me. Can easily use it for my photojournalist work along with my M10P. Tried my 135/3.4 today with the 1,8 zoom feature it means that it will be a 243 mm lens. Seems to work fine. I write this to nuance all the problem threads here. If you come here as a new customer and looking. It is a good camera. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Hi dickgillberg, Take a look here One month with M11 gbp. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lexffm Posted January 26 Share #2 Posted January 26 Then I hope you continue to have fun with the new camera. I hope you don't drive while it's charging, at least not as it is lying there right now. Of course, the M11 with firmware 2.2.0 has had good and bad times. However, I would like LEICA to finally eliminate the freezes or similar problems that still exist with 2.2.0 instead of releasing an update because of the photo app... I look forward to your photo contributions
jakontil Posted January 27 Share #3 Posted January 27 Charge anywhere, and a great battery life is my biggest factor swapping my m10r bp.. the fw 2.2.0 have been good in my use case and the leicafotos app update is great
Stevejack Posted January 27 Share #4 Posted January 27 The glossy back is very nice indeed. I much prefer the look and feel of the GB compared with my original black paint M11. I've only had the GB for a few days now but I've had one lockup while using it where I had to drop the battery, other than that it's been solid. My M11-M suffered frequent lockups until I the later firmware was released, but it seems very stable now so I'm not sure why the GB had an issue. For how I use the camera I definitely prefer the M11 series over the M10-R even with the occasional lockup, which says a lot because the M10-R was wonderful. Elliot Harper Posted January 27 Share #5 Posted January 27 I was not a big fan of black paint (or glossy paint in this regard), but I dislike silver even more so all my leicas are black. But I really hate the sandy feeling of m11 black chrome so I traded it in for glossy black as soon as it was released.
Marley Posted January 28 Share #6 Posted January 28 @Elliot Harper Hello, so how did you find the M11 glossy black compared to your m11 black chrome? Is the glossy black made of brass? I have a silver M11 and was thinking to trade in for the Glossy black paint. I prefer black overall. but just worried that I might have problems with the M11 glossy black paint software wise and can't swallow the trade in value. Also I have a silver chrome lens and don't know how it will look with a black paint body. 😀 I know, first world problems. Just wanted to know comments from M11 glossy black paint owners. Black chrome is lighter, glossy black is heavier, so I assume it's all brass. I have a M10-R black paint too and silver lenses on it look ok, not as good as black lens though. So I know what I am getting before trading in.

I know this wasn't directed at me but I was worried about the same thing. Software wise it's a bit of a mixed bag. My original M11, on launch firmware, had no issues. My M11 Monochrom which I picked up about a year later had lots of lockups, corrupt files, the works. Problems like this are inexcusable for any camera, especially one as expensive as Leica. The issues seem to have resolved with later firmware and I'm happy now. My M11 Glossy Black has had one lockup which I haven't been able to replicate... I can't remember exactly what I was doing but I've used it a lot since then and had no issues. I *think* I was making a bunch of changes in the menus at the time; being a new camera I was in the process of setting things up how I like it. The M11M would lock up while I was actually taking pictures which was incredibly frustrating, especially during the flow a portrait session. Overall I wouldn't be worried, I think it's stable enough these days. For what it's worth I've had the very occasional lockup with almost every camera I've owned - they're all just computers at the core so the occasional glitch will happen from time to time.
