Advertisement Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Hi graeme_clarke, Take a look here Which CF Express type B card do you favour for SL3? Help with choice needed please!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
HansLee Posted January 26 Share #2 Posted January 26 I have used the Lexar Professional 512GB (silver color) without any problems. Mostly for photography, shooting at full 60mb resolution and have not encountered any limitations because of the card speed.
beewee Posted January 26 Share #3 Posted January 26 OWC Atlas Ultra is my new go-to after Lexar got sold and Sandisk burned their reputation on selling SSDs with known issues that resulted in data loss.
Eoin Posted January 26 Share #4 Posted January 26 I’ve always used Sandisk CF cards purchased from a reputable source without issue. Recently I’ve been buying Lexar due to their competitive pricing on faster cards. Both brands have given me no issues. I generally buy their pro extreme or professional range. Photoworks Posted January 26 Share #5 Posted January 26 I have been using the Angelbird 1TB and 2TB, very good cards. It is one of the cards used in most red cameras for video. 1TB goes for $199 in the USA CF Express cards have different controller chips with different speeds and maintained speeds. Many cards have a large buffer that will give you the impression of performing fast at 1000MBs + speeds, but after a few minutes of use, the buffer drops to 200MBs, reviling the card's real speeds. Photoworks Posted January 26 Share #6 Posted January 26 Micron sold Lexar's name right to the Chinese after the Chinese fluttered the market with fake SD cards. ProGrade for all the machines from Lexar and build a new company. Sandisk was very good for so many years, but once the company was sold to WD, all the problems started to come up. Failing 4TB SSD for increasing the density from 2TB and causing data loss above the 2TB mark. And new SD cards cause data loss in cameras. redrocksjoe Posted January 26 Share #9 Posted January 26 +1 for SanDisk . I got mine from BH https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1551703-REG/sandisk_sdcfe_512g_ancnn_512gb_extreme_pro_cfexpress.html There is a noticeable write speed increase over the SD card. -Joe
BillCB Posted January 26 Share #10 Posted January 26 I've been using Sandisk cards for for at least twenty years (mostly with Phase One gear) and never had a problem. I use the CF-B Extreme Pro 128GB in the SL3 along with an Extreme Pro SD 128GB as backup. I use the same card in the M11-P but it's 256 GB to match the internal memory. All the cards have come from B&H.
SJH Posted January 28 Share #11 Posted January 28 Used Sandisk for many years but delighted with Pro Grade CF Type 4’s at 850/3400 MB/s - brilliant cards.
malbooth Posted February 2 Share #12 Posted February 2 +1 to the SanDisk link to B&H Photo Video above by redrocksjoe. I use the same 512 GB card. It was very reliable and provided more than enough storage for two photography trips over about 3 weeks each to Japan and then Europe in 2024. I usually downloaded to a Sandisk SSD every night, but there was no need to delete the raw files, all shot at full resolution.
