FYI Leica forwarded to developers for Multishot on APC-C glas. Let´s see, if they really open the algorithm for APS-C too. I fear, this would be a lot of work! My little Pana S9 is not able to do Multishot with APS-C either.

It seems meanwhile we have to deal with a bug in firmware. Please read the thread here. It seems Leica did forget to turn on IS for handheld Multi Shot. Anyhow we can only speculate on this. Did mail about it to Leica to check it out.

It might not be that they forgot to turn it on. As handheld mulitishot relies on IS to shift the sensor they might have run into a technical glitch.

Jaap, let´s see. I just take my cute Pana S9 as indicator what is possible and stay optimistic :) Trusting on Wetzlar!

In addition to trust and hope; don't forget patience. More often than not, things take (a looooong) time...

No handheld multishot on market relies on IBIS to shift sensor. To the best of my knowledge, they rely on camera body movement. This is confirmed by my SL3-S test that shows handheld multishot to have worse detail/resolution when mounted on a tripod than when handheld.

I am also in contact with Leica. I have not yet received confirmation that they see it as a bug.

On handheld multishot they did not say anything so far to me either. Only on APS-C to have it forwarded to dev. But APS-C is no bug. I guess APS-C would require them to open up complete algorithm!

Some people appear to disagree

They do not talk about handheld multishot. Tripod based pixel shift relies on IBIS moving the sensor and stabilization must be off. Handheld multishot cannot rely on pixel shift as the camera is not immobile. Tripod based multishot has always better detail/resolution than handheld multishot.

Jaap, why can I do 200 on S9 and not on SL3-S. There must be something not fine with current firmware IMO.

Thanks for pointing it out. They are wrong.

I know that Olympus does not use pixel-shift for handheld multishots (there is some official documentation around this). Also, the results and the procedure from handheld vs tripod multishot are different. For a fixed exposure, a tripod multishot takes 3 seconds to collect images, while a tripod multishot takes 5 seconds. It also takes much longer to assemble handheld than tripod multishot. This is consistent with Olympus implementation: 8 shots for a tripod and 12-16 shots for a handheld multishot. When mounted on a tripod, the handheld multishot resolution is worse, which should not be the case if pixel shift was used for both.

Somebody forgot to tell Panasonic it seems. I count eight shots with handheld. It is not a separate setting either.

How do you count eight shots? What do you mean it is not a separate setting? After a recent update, you should have a handheld or tripod option (Handheld High Res ON or Off). Don't you? If you don't, you do not have a handheld multishot in your camera.

In the video below, Richard Wong compares handheld vs. tripod multishot using s5 II. His findings probably apply to SL3-S as well. He also says that tripod mode needs eight shots while handheld needs 16 shots.

Where did you get this information from? Source please. Thanks.
