mdavidp Posted January 16 Share #1 Posted January 16 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all. Has anyone ever sent an S lens in for adjustment? (Not the AF part replacement.) Was there an improvement? Thank you, Mike P
Advertisement Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Hi mdavidp, Take a look here Leica S Lens Repair. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ropo54 Posted January 16 Share #2 Posted January 16 Mine is there now. Just got an estimate after waiting 2 months. I'm told it could be 9 months repair time. The "9 month time frame from estimate" is what Leica is quoting. Had a lens repaired a few months ago with the same caveat as to time frame, but it came back within 3 months. Good luck with yours. (I do think it makes it hard for professional photographers to want to invest in, or continue with the S system, with Leica's current capacity to address their S line). chrismuc Posted January 16 Share #3 Posted January 16 10 days ago I sent my S006 to Leica Wetzlar for sensor remapping (removing the red pixel line), AF fine adjustment, sensor cleaning and exchange of the eye cap. They sent me the following average repair / service times: analoge M cameras 21,4 weeks digitale M cameras 6,2 weeks S camera 1 week SL camera 6 weeks Q camera 5,4 weeks lenses current lenses 5,6 weeks older / classical lenses 18 weeks So ... I shall be lucky. I did send in only my S camera, my S lenses are fine. I am not sure if the consider S lenses as 'actual' or 'old' (they did not mention M, S, SL lenses in particular).
davidmknoble Posted January 16 Share #4 Posted January 16 I had 2 lenses CLA’d fall 2024 and it took maybe 6 weeks. But, I asked one lens to be taken apart the lenses cleaned (CS lens, bought used and wanted the dust cleaned out). They did a great job, just sent another CS lens for repair about 2 weeks ago. It may take a bit, but they always come back looking great and I figure it is worth taking the time, otherwise why invest in the system?
Tirpitz666 Posted January 16 Share #5 Posted January 16 While I have no doubt that their repair service is great, why they didn't include ad AF fine tune option in four iterations of a (very expensive) body like the S is beyond me.. As much as the S single AF point is usually pretty precise in my experience, considering the high acutance/sharpness of the sensor/S-lenses combo, having the option to self-adjusting things if something is off instead of sending everything to Wetzlar would have been great. One week for the S is really good. Could be they are ramping up S capacity for the S4? No one would buy into S with the previous turnaround times. chrismuc Posted January 17 Share #7 Posted January 17 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would not read too much into it. The short repair time is just the S cameras, not the lenses. I would assume that 1. not so many S cameras were sold (so less need service), compared to any other Leica camera system, and 2. also less issues are known, compared to SL and M cameras. Mainly the exchange of corroded CCD sensors in the 2009-2012 models, but that is no longer offered.
