Leica M11 Hotshoe Cover Replacement

What people in the UK do when they lose their original hotshoe cover? Getting the original from Leica will cost me £35, which is dare if you ask me. 

Using generic hotshoe covers is not the option here, I would like to get electonic contracts of viewfinder to be properly covered from the rain.

Ha-ha, this will be too simple - Leica M11 hotshoe has reliably cover electronic contacts for the viewfinder, otherwise camera will not be rainproof.

Mate just pay the 35 for replacement. Using anything but the Leica one could damage the hotshoe springs. Is it worth it for the sake of 35 ?

OR - How do you think a bit of '3rd party' plastic will not work? I would buy one and try it , especially if you are likely to loose one again.

I like the official Leica one with a small ball bearing on the bottom. Is it for the SL3 officially? They don’t seem to be on the website but do appear to be in a plastic bag in a drawer in Leica dealers! They are very resistant to falling out randomly but go in and out with a satisfying clunk.

That's the hot shoe cover from the M10-P. Made from metal, not plastic (like the M11 one). Keep in mind that the black cover is black chrome, were your black M11 has a different finish.

I agree. If there is no suitable replacement available, there’s really no choice, especially for those shooting in the rain.

I made an effort today. I lost it when I was taking my camera from the bag yesterday in the Westminster area, and I found it today when I came back with proper lighting. I was lucky it did not rain yesterday.

It probably will not cover viewfinder contacts, which is essential for weather sealing.

Well, you will not know unless you try. You can add a small piece of adhesive electrical insulation tape over the contacts. It is not difficult to resolve, or just pay up if that is your preference and you do not like alternatives, in which case not sure what this thread is about.

My Sony cameras have multiple contacts in the end of the hotshoe. One is missing the plstic bit to cover them and has been for years. Still works fine and has not been mollycoddled at all, quite the opposite.

Yet more ridiculousness. I've used M's (and other cameras) for years in all conditions without a bit of overpriced plastic in the hotshoe, ever. Zero issues. Like lens caps, just another thing to get lost or be in the way. Unless one is dunking the camera, there is no egress through hotshoes.

Probably not but the hot shoe of EVF enabled M cameras has electric contacts. With the M240 Leica told us they were not weatherproof.
