Sending lens and M11 to Leica CS

I've got two things to send back; my summilux 28mm 1.4 which feels disconcertingly wobbly on the barrel and had slightly sticky focussing (I suspect they'll say within tolerance) and an M11M which developed a scratch on the screen within 1 month despite barely being out of the Billingham Hadley Pro.

Can anyone advise, I realise it says no accessories, should I send the lens with pouch?, lens cap, etc?

BTW, we all know about mysterious scratches on valued items - I always blame the cat 🙃

Thanks very much. It probably makes sense to send off after xmas so as to avoid the no doubt quite long Christmas holiday and postal carnage in general!

That's good to know! They aren't exactly cheap! Maybe it's a perk for the people working in repair.

😜. No, it is forbidden to send them by mail or courier, unless bulk and with precautions.You probably could collect in person from CS.

Just buy the M11-D.   My camera purchase 12 years prior has it's LCD chipped all over the edges.   I bought the M11-D specifically so I did not have to deal with the LCD screen.   I cringe when I have a camera dangling around my neck and that screen is slapping against buttons and zippers of my shirts and coats.

I put a tempered glass screen protector on all my cameras and have had zero issues with screen damage across many cameras put through the ringer around my neck, in various bags, etc.

Well I have now too, having had watches for about 6 years with sapphire crystal and not a single scratch I couldn’t believe when my M11M sapphire screen got a scratch despite being less than 4 weeks old, been nowhere near sand/rock/metal and having lived inside a lined Bellingham bag the whole time. 
 

It now has a cheesy screen protector on it which is not as good as the original surface from standpoint of reflection but at least I can see or feel the scratch!

 

longer term though I don’t mind scratches in the body but there’s something about them on the screen that I just can’t stomach so at some point back it goes. 
 

I’ve decided as it’s Christmas not much point in sending until they are properly back to work.

Derbyshire Man,   I suggest you either make a video or at least take photographs of the camera body and lens as you pack them; front, back, top and bottom and sensor; same for the lens.  If for any reason the pieces come back more damage than when it left, you will have proof of condition on leaving.  Doing this has saved me a lot of grief with Leica with a SL lens and M camera as I could prove there was no damage going to Leica.  Same when the items come back; video the box opening and inspect the glass and camera body and sensor for potential damage.  In both cases, I was able to prove my case the lens and camera were damaged (dropped) in the shipping department.  Both were replaced with new.  r/ Mark

PS  Its protection like when picking up a hire car...always video the entire car before leaving the rental lot and most certainly on return...it may save you a lot of angst should one be accused of rental car damages.  This has happened to me as well...the videos squashed the company claim.

Thanks R10, I've taken some photo's but you're right, video is a better idea. For now I've sent just the lens as I can live without that a bit easier that the camera! I'll definitely video the return and the camera in the new year when it goes off. I may be going to Istanbul in January and I'd like the M11M for that but then I've got nothing other than a skiing holiday for a few months and with so much light the M11P/D will of course be just as good so it can go on its travels then.
