Love the fact Leica takes Smartphone integration really serious - this should be their #1 Investment priority for their software teams.

Now lets get DNG background transfer as well - I would be prepared to sacrifice battery life for that!!

This is one of the things that impresses me about Leica. They do seem to spend more time listening to customers than other manufacturers and seem happy to produce what are in essence low run boutique items like MXXD and MXXM series.

I had the same problem at first...you may need to update your Leica Fotos app first.

Has anyone used their M11 enough with the new firmware to know if it freezes the camera or not? I haven’t had a freeze up with the previous version so will delay installing this for a while in hopes of not getting caught out again.

I have been using it for almost 2 weeks (beta test program) and it seems to be very stable. However, if your camera is currently working well and you don't see a need for the background image transfer and the ability to format via Fotos, then probably no rush to update until you feel it's prudent.

However my app is not showing the "Background transfer" options.

Please try to delete the camera in the App and (!) in the bluetooth settings of the iPhone. The it should work after repairing.

As you write above you have all the latest software. But it still does not work. Then you might want to try a fully new installation on your phone: Delete Leica Fotos app plus delete the camera in the Bluetooth settings of you phone. Maybe you have a lot of Leica cameras paired with Leica Fotos. Then this might be a pain. If you have just 1 camera its the fastest way to try to fix.

Had this issue, too. It worked after pairing again with my iPhone. And after I made sure the Bluetooth toggle on my iPhone for the M11D was switched on

Interesting that the app now provides post-shot Leica Looks access, and with the Background Access feature creates small file size web friendly images.

In the app I applied the "Brass" Leica Look after the shot.   Finally, an iPhone camera replacement.

Got some minor freezes at startup with fw 2.1.3, especially with uncoded lenses. Half pressing the shutter release fixed mostly the issue but in the worse cases, a pop out of battery and/or card was necessary. I tried again with uncoded lenses under the current fw 2.2.0, with zero freeze so far. Same with coded and pen coded lenses but i will report if i get any freeze under fw 2.2.0, which seems unlikely for now.

I like to remind everyone to reset the camera after updating it and then make a new connection with the iPhone.

During the update process, the screen shows you to reset the camera, but it is only up a few sec before rebooting, and most people never see it.

Updated effortlessly via Fotos, M11 and M11M. 

For my purposes, this is an outstanding update! 

Background transfers of the preview issue worked immediately, and the transfers are very fast. I can foresee many circumstances in which this will be my goto operating mode.

I did not reset nor recreate connection profiles on my M11 nor on my iPhone 13, all features worked out of the box. I love the background transfer of favourites, which makes it easy to hand out snaps on the fly (or send them to an instant printer) - the transfer starts immediately after tagging an image during preview. However only time will tell if this feature will be useful for me on the long run.

Leica seems to have polished the installation process a bit, too. Previously the progress bar was not very meaningful because it did not move that much, but during 2.2.0 update for the first time ever I realised at least some moving bar…

at least, this firmware update looks like a nice Christmas present for me and some additional holiday presents for friends and family (and probably a reason for buying a Sofort2 to print the transferred images on Christmas Day - ho, ho, ho…

Seems that Leica deemed that people who uses Android phones are not worth the background transfer feature. 😄

Seriously, get an iPhone. The ecosystem is much better. All my MacBooks, iMacs, iPhones sync messages/apps seamlessly.

It’s interesting that a reset after the FW upgrade is recommended by Leica as there is not an option/feature to reset an M11-D (except for the recently revealed hard boot function (hold thumb and function button for 30sec).  Is there another way to reset an M11-D or perhaps it’s not necessary since there are no profiles?

that is the way on the 11-D

RESETTING THE CAMERA TO FACTORY SETTINGS

This function allows the reset of all custom settings back to their factory settings in one pass.

→Press and hold the thumbwheel and the func- tion button for 30 s.
• A button-press counter is displayed in the

viewfinder.

Notes

• Date and time will have to be set again after a full reset.

 

it does have fewer options, and less chance to make a mistake.
