Advertisement Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Hi Tinbird, Take a look here SL3, SL2 & SL2-S: Firmware updates significantly expand the range of functions. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Tinbird Posted December 22, 2024 Share #122 Â Posted December 22, 2024 1 hour ago, Homo Faber said: Great, but needed to be updated, obviously. Nope. If you actually click the link on the reddot forum website URL you provide, Homo Faber, it provides only the current FW update version, none of the previous ones. The glaring omission that my original comment/question addressed was where I could find a COMPLETE listing of ALL of the changes introduced with EACH (and every one) of the FW updates for the Leica SL2 and Q2 cameras. The reddot forum does not provide that information. It merely re-lists only the latest (current) FW update that's already freely available on the Leica website. jayoco Posted December 24, 2024 Share #127 Â Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hmm...I just noticed I can no longer change the left dial direction for iso. Â I used to be able to turn the left dial clockwise to INCREASE iso. Â Now it's counter clockwise. Â The direction setting has been omitted from this recent firmware update. Â It could be I'm missing something as I run multiple systems, but I don't think so. OOPS...leaving this post here in case someone else needs the help. Â Go to customize control - Dials - Dial direction. Â You can change the direction from that menu. Edited December 24, 2024 by jayoco
Tinbird Posted December 24, 2024 Share #128  Posted December 24, 2024 I posted a comment the other day, complaining about the complete absence of any archives of previous firmware updates (i.e. only the current, most recent singular FW update is available, and that includes even the absence of any "Release Notes" of previous FW updates (Leica "Release Notes" describe - usually in a very cursory manner - the features introduced and bugs fixed with each FW update). Surprisingly, this rather important information (what, exactly, was added and fixed with each previous FW update) is apparently unavailable anywhere on the web - I've searched for hours to no avail. Although I'm diligent about actually keeping all of my cameras (and lenses) updated with the latest FW releases, regrettably, I haven't been as diligent about documenting the changes, and I simply can't remember all of the new features that were introduced and all of the bugs that were fixed with each new FW update, and as such, I really can't take full advantage of the "enhanced" capabilities of my camera(s). I suspect many of you reading this are in the same position, even if you're unaware of it or haven't really paid much attention to it. Pedantic as it may sound, and since it's not available anywhere else, I'd also like to update/edit the .pdf versions of my Leica Camera Instruction Manuals to reflect the changes introduced with each of the nine FW updates that have so far been issued for the SL2 (as of the time I'm writing this). The detailed information I'm sharing below (which goes way beyond what the typical official Leica Firmware "Release Notes" provide) will greatly assist me in this project. For those reading this that share my interest in becoming aware of the specific changes introduced with each of the previous nine SL2 FW updates (so that we may actually understand and use these enhancements to our benefit and enjoyment!), attached below is what I've been able to dig up so far. This is a much more detailed and complete listing than the one I posted in my original posting two days ago. As I mentioned, I intend to manually update my SL2 Instruction Manual (.pdf version) to include all of the changes introduced with these FW updates, thus, creating a fully up-to-date and complete Instruction Manual for the camera, as of 2024.12 and FW v.6.1.0, which I can reliably refer to in the future, to refresh my memory and to get the most out of my camera. My instinct with a new camera is to get it out of the box and (a) take photos (b) press all the buttons and see what happens (c) work through the menu switching off every feature I don't want (there are rarely, if ever, features turned off by default that I might want). Of my digital Leicas: M9: never looked at it. It was the intuitive operation that delighted me after various Canons and Nikons. M240: I think I referred to it to check a couple of functions (how to use video, use of liveview). TL2: I looked at the manual more than for most cameras, to work out the novel touchscreen menu system and customisation. CL: never looked at it. SL: looked at it once, when I got stuck in video. SL2/SL2-S: rarely looked at it, perhaps for oddities like multishot (which I hardly use) Q2: another one like the M9 - a delight of intuitive operation. Q3 43: have not looked at it yet. But everyone learns in their own way, so I'm sure a complete, edited, up to date PDF manual will be useful to many.

It looks like a really useful resource, it's just a shame that we have to do it for ourselves. It wouldn't be that difficult for Leica to add the info incrementally with each release and have it available somewhere on the support section of their website. And to be a bit more forthcoming about what the changes actually are. I am somewhere between @Tinbird and @LocalHero1953 in using the manuals. I usually have a look through when I first get a new machine just to make sure I know where all the buttons are and roughly what they do, and then rely on experience to figure out how to actually use the camera. But I often refer to it for details. For example I might well change a few button settings, then it is useful to be able to refer back to the manual to check what the defaults are. I still feel quite strongly that where there are significant changes to the user interface, there should be a revised version of the manual. For example Perspective Control was introduced by a firmware update (version 5.0 in September 2022 according to the list) but my copy of the SL2-S manual, downloaded in March 2023, makes no mention of of it. It is fairly simple to use but not entirely intuitive, so it really needs a paragraph or two in the manual. Thanks again for doing the work. LocalHero1953 Posted December 24, 2024 Share #131 Â Posted December 24, 2024 I agree that if Leica is to provide an online manual then it ought to be up to date with current features.

You are absolutely right. That should actually be a matter of course.
Ken Abrahams Posted January 7 Share #133  Posted January 7 I had to remove and replace the SL3 Fotos connections. The SL2S seemed to be okay but no matter what I did i could not get SL3 to connect with Fotos. Even when connecting SL3 by cable to the phone the advice was "cannot connect to camera."  Previously I have been out shooting with SL2S and SL3 swapping here and there with different lenses and the geotagging worked flawlessly for both cameras. I have never had the two working so well and the SL3 was superb with tagging, no glitching whatsoever. After the the firmware it would not work so I deleted the camera from the app and started from scratch but that didnt help so I made sure the SL2S wifi was off and tried connecting by cable to the SL3 and I dont know what I did but it worked and I am now connected for geotagging again. I will have to check how it works out in the field, when I change cameras here and there. Ken

FWIW I have both these cameras and have had no issues with Fotos since the firmware update. I don't use them concurrently like you do (I take one or the other) but I've had no issue re-connecting with Fotos, geotagging or downloading imafes. Hope you get it solved.

Good to know Hooly, as I said after deleting the connection and re connecting Fotos and SL3 has solved the problem. The SL 3 performed well yesterday and all GPS data saved. It remains to be seen if both cameras used at the same time will maintain the connection to fotos.  I googled this this morning iPhone "Up to seven Bluetooth devices can connect to an iPhone, but only three or four can connect at once."  Cheers
BillCB Posted January 10 Share #136 Â Posted January 10 I routinely connect my SL-3 and M11-P simultaneously. Photos records/geotags both just fine.
peepingpok Posted January 15 Share #137 Â Posted January 15 Hello fellow Leica SL2/SL2-S users, I've downloaded the latest firmware 6.1 for the SL2-s via my Mac, however, when I want to update in the camera, the camera does not recognize the file. I've had several attempts by now and also before I've updated previous firmware versions without any issues. Has anyone faced the same? Any good suggestions? Another interesting thing is that the name and extension of the downloaded file is SL2S_610.lfu.download, and no matter what I do, I cannot change the file extension to simply read.lfu. Any support/suggestion is highly appreciated. Cheers

Cheers Please disregards, it seems that I've found a workaround, I simply downloaded the file to "downloads" first and then moved to the SD card, and it worked. Still strange though why I could not just download it directly on my SD card with the correct file extension.

The ".download" file extension tells you that the file is still downloading. Once downloaded, that file extension gets removed automatically by the Mac OS. It could be the original file download was interrupted, leaving it with the incomplete ".download" file extension.
