Just received this email :)

Thank you so much for your feedback,

Today we have released the firmware Version 3.0.0 for the Leica Q3 and Q3 43,

The improvements as followings-

Autofocus:

The iAF performance was improved. Focus delay and tracking output were improved.

AF/AE-Lock:

The AF Lock function will now be permanent after activation, until the relevantly assigned button is pressed again or the AF Field is shifted.

That applies to the settings AF-L + AE-L and AF-L. The AE Lock function maintains AE-L after activation, even if the AF Field is shifted

Continuous Shooting:

The start delay for the setting 15 fps was reduced by 700 ms

Capture mode:

Blackout time for single shots was improved from approx. 310 ms to around 250 ms.

USB Audio:

New supported USB audio products by RØDE:

• VideoMic GO II

• VideoMic NTG

• Wireless GO II

• Wireless ME

• and compatible USB microphones

Thank you so much for your patience for the new firmware,

hope you will have a lot of joys and wonderful memories with your beautiful Leica Q3 43.

  :)

Unless I'm reading this wrong, it seems like we can now have true back button focus implemented.

The Q3 doesnt have poor focusing. I have no issue with it.

So you will not need to update then. I did say apparent and specifically the Q3 43 The apparent comes from many on line creditable reviewers indicating issues with low light focusing and the numerous Q3 complaints in this forum wrt to subject tracking

If the sensor and processor are the same then this seems a spurious claim. If both cameras were set up like for like, why would there be a difference?

It’s more likely a poor workman blaming his tools (namely the Q3 43) than a problem with the equipment. There are plenty of blogger “experts” who can’t be bothered to set up the camera properly and then just pontificate. It’s not just Leica but other camera companies too.

It’s not that simple. Lenses play a big part, and they are different. Besides, whenever you introduce a new variable in a software, you don’t know how it will affect the rest. I can guarantee you that even a small hardware change can sometimes bring unexpected results.

I should be grateful if someone could confirm or otherwise my findings with version  3.0.0 when compared to version 2.0.5

I thought that firmware version 2.0.5 showed the profile icon together with the number of the profile that had been selected, in the “Quick Settings” screen.

In version 3.0.0 it just shows the profile icon with no indication as to what profile has been selected.

Was I imagining what v2.0.5 actually showed?

Thanks

It's behaving the same for me as far as I can see. A profile icon (face) with no number signifies that the current settings don't match any profile. If you select a user profile that you have stored you should see the corresponding number on the profile icon.

I have two profiles set up  at the moment. If I select, say, profile 1, then the camera settings are changed accordingly but the profile icon (face) with no number is shown when I select the Quick Settings screen. i don't think i am doing anything differently to when I used v2.0.5.

I am at a bit of a loss

Strange. Dis you save and re-load the two profiles during the FW update process? If so perhaps create a new, third, profile with the new FW and see if that works OK.

My only thought is that the profiles contained some element that has changed with the new FW and the new FW doesn't recognise them.,

@Corius

Thanks for the clue!.

I selected each of my saved profiles and saved them again to their original profile numbers and now they are being shown on the quick settings screen as expected.

Thanks for your help. much appreciated.

This profile numbering thing happens each upgrade in various (Leica) cameras. I think it's because something has been changed in the firmware relating to a parameter in your settings, so your settings (as a collection of parameters) doesn't match the way the new firmware describes it. The solution is to select your profile, then go and save it again. That has fixed it previously.

Edit. Posted 10 secs to late - I see someone has already explained it.
