Silfveroxel Posted December 8, 2024 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello soon more time for travel and photography. I have a q2 and om1 for wilderness photo I love gadgets and have no issue with more with good arguments. Complement with Q3/43 or M11 or SL3, or all? Everyone are entitled to have an opinion and please avoid discuss and comment other’s opinions in non respect way m11 cool camera and could see why would like rangefinder as kind of old school, SL3 for quality and versality, q3 for size and travel friendly
Advertisement Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Hi Silfveroxel, Take a look here Q3/43 or M11. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
londond Posted December 8, 2024 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2024 All. Your final sentence nicely summarises why, although I would quibble with quality as a differentiator only of the SL3. Plus mono Q and M variants, and of course there is always film. Don’t want to seem dismissively flippant but the Ms, Qs and SLs do different things so if you can afford them all, why not? How about: - M11M with APO 35 for super cool old school experience and occasional wow images - Q3 43 for travel/bad weather - SL3 with 24-90 for versatility albeit heavy …as a starter kit. Take a view on suitability of SL3 vs OM1 for wilderness (wildlife?)
Olaf_ZG Posted December 8, 2024 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2024 None. If you can’t decide between such different styles of cameras, you shouldn’t be buying any.
ianforber Posted December 8, 2024 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2024 I have a Q2 and supplemented it with an M11 plus 35 and 50mm lenses, chosen deliberately because they were not 28mm. Personally I didn’t like it so sold the M11 but they were obviously different shooting experience, which you might enjoy. I’ve never owned an SL camera so can’t comment with personal experience but buying one instead of an M11 gives you the choice of using M lenses with it as well as autofocus lenses. I’ve decided to stick with my Q2 as my only camera but I’d go for the SL3 option.
aficionados Posted December 8, 2024 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) I have both, and I travel a lot. So I can speak with confidence and sanity and experience: Take Q3 when with family, take M11 when solo. Take both when you are inebriated. 😀 Edited December 8, 2024 by aficionados 3

JohnQ Posted December 8, 2024 Share #7 Posted December 8, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have sl2s, M11 and Q3 43. For travel the Q because of the weight, size and image quality. The M for the joy of photography. The SL2s just because. I hardly use the SL2s but it has a certain feel to it and the image quality is very good. A lot of subjectivity but I don’t care, I don’t have the cameras for anything else but personal pleasure and sharing with family.

Personal pleasure and family, not professional and you have the same conclusion more or less as I so far :) 1

Why this comment? Only to show off and tell you are superior and know this stuff. Tried a nice question and hoped that I could avoid people like you, but you always find a way to show up and say something negative about someone. 5

Both can do whatever you and I want. But they are totally different. As long as you are doubting you shouldn’t get none. find out which one you like more, and because of what. Then make your decision.

It's an unanswerable question because they are so different. Hey, I like to drive...should I buy a Ferrari or a pickup truck?

Well for Ferrari there is at least a year plus waitlist. Hence the pick up truck for driving fun within the next hour Hope that helps 1
Cogito Posted December 9, 2024 Share #15 Posted December 9, 2024 (edited) for personal travel, bring one camera. you have two good ones. spend your time/energy on making great photos instead of collecting gear, much more satisfying. Velo-city Posted December 10, 2024 Share #16 Posted December 10, 2024 (edited) Would agree with some of the comments - and it's not meant to be rude in any way, but to answer such an open and broad question based on so little information is almost impossible, even for you - let alone an internet audience. There is a wealth of information here and elsewhere on the internet about all the cameras and systems - they all have their pros and cons like everything does and much of it comes down to personal needs and preferences and values and cost. And of course you can pair up what with have with any camera from any brand outside of Leica - many of which will offer far better value for money etc etc. Or just dont get anything and go on photography trips or attend courses, or the list is endless. If you can hire/test-drive/borrow any that would be a good place to start. Sadly that option wasn’t really there for me so I bought an M to try and you can read some of my other posts for how that went. Hope you enjoy whatever you go with. ktmrider2 Posted December 12, 2024 Share #17 Posted December 12, 2024 I purchased a Q3 two days ago and have owned Leica M’s since 1975. My excursion into the digital Leica world was an M9 and M240 sold years ago. I wanted something for travel and to make my life easier. I purchased a new MP in February, 2024, primarily as I had not bought a new Leica since 1995 or so (M6TTL). I have six M mount lenses but finding I use primarily the 35 or 50 focal lengths. Guess it comes down to what you want the camera for. As I said I wanted something for travel and lots of automation because I just turned 72 and getting tired of hauling even an MP with two or three lenses around. And the crop on the Q3 down to 50 seems to work find.
