rajahornstein Posted November 30, 2024 Share #1 Posted November 30, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm having lots of trouble finding a replacement. I wonder if there's a substitute. This cap worked with the lens hood (12575) which says on it that it was for the 135 mm f4 and f4.5 and also for the 90 mm f4. It works by reversing the hood and then putting on the cap on the back of the hood. I guess I could get a regular cap for an E39 lens and keep the hood separate. Any thoughts? Advertisement Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Hi rajahornstein, Take a look here lost lens cap for Tele-Elmarit-M 90mm f/2.8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Geschlecht Posted November 30, 2024 Share #2 Posted November 30, 2024 (edited) Hello Raja, Welcome to the Forum. The black plastic cap you are looking for is a 14033 which is basically for use when the lens is being put away. It is not for use when you are out & about. The 14033 fits over the top of any reversed A42 lens hood. When you are out & about it is better to use a 14122 in black, or a 14031 in chrome, lens hood that fits directly on the front of the A42 lens when the lens hood has been removed. rajahornstein Posted November 30, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted November 30, 2024 Thanks Michael, I found the 14033 online. Too bad they don't make a cap that goes on the front of the hood. Or do they? Regards, Raja
Michael Geschlecht Posted November 30, 2024 Share #4 Posted November 30, 2024 (edited) Hello Raja, Some people take small elastic closed covers that look like miniature shower caps for people who want to take a shower but do not want to wash their hair & use them to cover the front & the sides of lens hoods attached to lenses on cameras. I think you might be able to find some of these in specialty cooking ware stores. They are sometimes used for covering the tops of small cups or/& jars, etc. Best Regards, Michael Edited November 30, 2024 by Michael Geschlecht
lct Posted November 30, 2024 Share #5 Posted November 30, 2024 The earlier OROBI hood cap works perfectly too. At that time Leitz did not make hood caps otherwise than for hoods in reverse position if memory serves. I would have laughed then if i could imagine photogs like HCB needing hood caps otherwise but i may have missed something basic in the Leica history 😄 Just kidding. Welcome, dear visitor! Robert Ardinger Posted December 3, 2024 Share #6 Posted December 3, 2024 The outside diameter of the open end of that hood is 58mm. I found that a "Sensei 58mm Push-On Lens Cap" (about $10, bought from B&H) fits the 12575 lens hood when in "shooting" position. I don't use it very much but wanted to have it as an option.
