All true.  Irony wasted.

Were you that officious person who intercepted me walking through Auckland Airport with my roll-a-board full of camera equipment that tried to force me to put it in checked luggage in 2006 because it was “too heavy”? You are up early if you are posting from Auckland.

gamut was SRGB.

What gamut do they say for M10R? Jpegs only of course, no in camera gamut for DNG's ( as was explained earlier).

I was reading the specification for the M11 put out by Leica. I was surprised they stated the gamut was SRGB. I raised the question here because the initial poster was trashing the M11. I like both my M10-R and M11; however, the M11 has, with previous firmware versions, had a propensity to occasionally lock up. I am hoping the latest update fixes that.

Presumably it's the JPEGs  and screen that are sRBG.

But it's slightly unusual to list it out separately like that on its own line as if it's a global parameter.

As mentioned, sRGB is listed for M10-R as well.

I was never tempted by the M11, but I am a little by the D - and the only thing that temps me is the lack of the screen.

Thanks for saving me 9k and parting with my M10 system. M10 isn't perfect - the sensor is lacking a little. It's why an M10-D won't do it for me. My M10 is well loved but that sensor really has been a limit in few but important scenarios. But I never shoot color anymore. And my M10M is basically perfect. It just has that damn screen. But I guess I can continue to put up with that.

None of the other improvements have anything to do with the way that I shoot. Batteries, storage, etc etc all fixes to things never problems for me.

If I could design a camera it would be a monochrome - D version.

I don't much care if in an M11 or M10 body (baseplate or not) - and probably not more than 45 mp, as I think 60 is just too much for handheld cameras, but hoping that new tech would yield improvements in the DR instead of the absolute resolution. But really, the M10-M is just so damn good.

I have never wanted a -D myself, and I'm curious about the attraction. Is it the removal of the temptation of chimping, or is it the total removal of an alien glass plate on the back of the camera? I almost never review an image on the back of a camera anyway, so the inability to chimp wouldn't worry me. And when I had a M, I rarely used the external VF either - just for focus calibration checking. But I would find the absence of a camera menu frustrating.

Well for me it's a nebulous thing really, I just like the feel of a D in the hand. I guess because of all my other past years with film M's I've never been big on LCD screens so that's not missed. An EVF accessory on an M? Yes I did try one out when I had the M10-D, but within an hour or so I knew it would just end up being an annoyance so back to the store it went. The trick with any M-D is the get it set-up once and stick with that, like a film M I guess...........Don't mess about with Foto's that is just a horrible thing to do, if you need to keep changing your basic camera set-up for whatever legit' reasons with the way you work then a M-D isn't for you.

What it comes down to though is as with everything, what works for one most likely will not work for another and don't expect it to......PLUS Leica people can be obsessive and really very picky about their gear. so there is that...............

It's both. I know myself to know that I tend to use what's there, even if it's not in my best interest. I wish I could be more disciplined in practice, but the best way to keep me engaged with the act of photography is by shooting film. Which sucks, because in general I don't have much love lost for the medium - for my purposes digital is generally the better output, but analog is the better process.

It's also just more aesthetically appealing an object. I can't speak for anyone else here but as much as I love my M10 it's still not quite as enjoyable as it was to hold my beat up M6. Like I suspect every person here knows in their heart of hearts because we pay multitudes more for something that is very hard to justify in any real photographic output sense - instead prioritizing experience of using the implement -  it's more fun to use an object you find appealing.

its striking just how many M11 s are for sale.

That could mean many things of course

I just did an eBay search, filtered for “relevance”.

  • under Leica: no M11 in first 100 listings
  • under Leica M: no M11 in first 100 listings
  • under Leica M Camera: 1 listing (#49) in first 100 listings

My take, there is just A LOT of Leica items bought and sold… a very liquid market.

This time of the year a lot of luxury items are sold to create funds for the holidays, or due to pending upgrade.  It’s always a good time to buy an M11, or any other Leica.

They far outweigh any of the other models.

Seems that it may be a good time to buy .

I think MPB are fairly market savvy - they have refused stuff from me before now because they have too many of the item or they won't sell. As Tseg suggests, they may have plenty because they can sell them easily.

It probably is a reasonable time to buy, there's still noise about freezing (with the latest firmware that is at worst a rare as hens teeth issue) and this will still be weighing on prices. Not as much as a new model however! If you want an M11 for the *differences from the M10* or because you haven't got one and would like one it would seem a reasonable time to buy. With MBP and others in the UK if you buy just before a time when you can test extensively it can always go back if it is problematic even with the latest firmware.

Thanks for that.

Not the sort of item I`d expect to see on ebay though.

I only looked at the specialist outlets

You may be correct re Christmas.
