 Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right place to share this, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter!

Currently, when you enable focus aid via a function button, it activates live view and the focus aid feature. However, pressing the function button again only turns off focus aid while keeping live view active, rather than toggling both off.

While I really appreciate live view, I personally don’t need it active all the time.

In my humble opinion, a toggle option for focus aid would be a great addition. It would allow those of us who rely on focus aid but prefer to minimize live view usage to enjoy a more streamlined experience.

What do you think? Is this something others would find useful? or is it just me 😅

Just to understand, what focus aid do you miss in RF mode? I know only one, the RF patch, but i may be missing something.

for example if you are using a lens with close focusing, and decided to use a Leica m instead of the phone or yet another dedicated mirrorless camera (or DSLR). Or for example if you are using an f1 lens at close range and want to be sure what is in focus instead of guessing or using the force (if one has any).

Makes sense to me, and in fact at some point was considering this an issue, but I am now used to click on the rear screen the LV icon to toggle from there. somehow works but as you say you cannot remove all at once.

I suppose the logic is that for composition you would still need to have the LV on as by using the viewfinder the risk could be of changing focus...  so they have decided as it is implemented.

Sure but the camera needs to be in LV mode for that, or does it not?

yes the use case is like this. want to take a picture of something, press 1 button to check focus, adjust magnification with the dial and then press once more the same button when done.

the way is implemented, press button, close view comes up, press button once more, LV stays, to remove which one needs another button mapped or the touch on the screen.

Not sure I get that. I have auto focus assist on focus set up. If the EVF is on (LV button) then EVF show view at magnification level already set by thumbwheel (ie none to a lot!), when done press LV button and all is gone.

I think I must be misunderstanding you!

You've got the right idea.
removing the step of disabling live view after checking focus aid will just make things flow a little better in my humble opinion.
I love live view, but I rather use live view to confirm focus rather than have a full preview of my shot, or have the option to work that way
Like I don't mind having to disable live view after being done with focus aid, I just feel like I should be enabling just focus aid when I need it, not both live view and focus aid at the same time. It would make a two button press be a 1 button press,

I am not suggesting to completely redo the setting, just have another option to toggle.

if it was up to me, It would be cool if you could hold the function button that you set for focus aid, and it keeps it up until you depress it, but thats just another idea seperate from this

I have my M11 FN button next to the shutter as M-ISO, click in wheel in the back as Exposure Comp, and back FN as LV. As you see, I don't use focus aid, but trying it out by replacing it with the LV, I see your point that LV just stays. I think if focus aid is important, I'd assign it to the click in wheel, and LV as the back FN button. So right click for aid, left click to turn off the screen.

Off topic but I didn't know this until recently was if you click into M-iso screen, if you keep your eye in the RF, it actually displays the ISO you're changing. Because sometimes that screen even though mostly black screen, it's still light to the eye in the RF. In other words, I just wouldn't want to look at the screen to change something, sometimes.
