Just picked this up. Really like it. As an aside I bought it from KEH (traded in my 90-280), KEH listed it as "NEW" and it was clearly not./ The box was missing some of the foam padding. Waiting to see what they are going to do about it. I've had a lot of good deals over the years from KEH so I will call it an anomaly.

Couldn't find a thread dedicated to the Summicron 50 SL, so here it is:

We welcome its sibling Lumix lens as well for interesting comparisons.

I like this photo a lot in itself, but it would also help answer a question.

i have the SL2S and LUMIX 50mm 1.8 (a “white box” sample of the lens that was discounted), and find that I need to stop down a heck of a lot (ie, at least f11, if not f16) to get both sides of the frame in decently sharp focus for the type of image that you’ve displayed here.

Is that your finding too with regards to your 50 Summicron SL, and/or maybe others can discuss side sharpness of their 50 1.8 LUMIX?

I am trying to gauge if my sample is simply bad luck for this type of landscape image, or whether I’m expecting too much from this lens? I do large prints (say, 30-40”, which arguably makes the difference in centre vs edge sharpness more obvious), but I would have nonetheless assumed that f5.6 would have put both sides pretty close into perfect focus (whereas my particular lens sample is far from that). My 50 APO LANTHAR, despite being a rangefinder lens, is considerably sharper at the sides than my copy of the LUMIX 50 1.8 too.

I would have to look in EXIF but they are certainly at 5.6 or wider. I cannot see an IQ difference to my LUMIX 1.8/35.

I like this lens - also because of its size, weight and fast AF

There’s always Google translate. 😉
