Cyberpoaching is on the increase. Poaching gangs hack the GPS trackers on endangered (and lucrative) wildlife - not much we can do about it, best left to the IT guys- but there are also gangs that search the internet for wildlife photos to read out GPS data and time stamps to map the movement of targeted wildlife like Rhinos, Tigers, Elephants, Pangolins, etc. This helps the killer poachers to go straight into protected areas, target the animals and evade anti-poaching law enforcement.

I would ask, no, strongly urge our members to strip such data from any wildlife image posted on the Internet, ask fellow photographers to do the same, also Smartphone users. If not stripped, do not post!

Safari camps and operators already ask their guests not to post, but report little success with their requests. Hopefully this will gain more traction, even if we on the Forum are but a small section of wildlife photographers, we have to start somewhere.
 

A Black Rhino with horn is a rather rare sight in the wild. We found this guy (or gal) in a not too dense area of bush and followed him for about ten minutes. Then he decided to check us out and walked up to the vehicle. After a few minutes he decided that we were not worth charging and ambled off. We followed him for another ten minutes before he went into dense bush. The best Rhino sighting I had in more than thirty years of Safari photography... 🙂

 Well, yes. They walk though dense bush without paying much attention to the thorns and sharp branches everywhere, they indulge in the occasional fight, etc. It is not a zoo out there. 😉

People should delete GPS data as well. A real problem with smartphone stuff on Instagram etc.
