dennersten Posted October 19, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 19, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I owned a Leiqa Q many years ago and loved it. So last year, I bought a Grey Leica Q. The Grey plastic was horrible, so I sold it after a month. Now, I am maybe investing in Q3. I found reports of two who thought it was too plasticky. How is Q3 43 stacking up? Is it still plasticky? OK, I am a snob. But for that amount of money, I don't want my camera to feel plasticky. I saw the Q2 reporter. It seems to be all plastic also. I have tried to look at pictures for Leica Q2 and Q3, but it's hard to understand what plastic is or is not. Please help
Advertisement Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 Hi dennersten, Take a look here Leica Q, q2,q3, Plasticky. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted October 19, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 19, 2024 I have the Q2 Reporter. It's neither plastic nor plasticky. IMO YMMV So you ought to go and look at it yourself. You won't get the definitive answer you seek here.
thatkatmat Posted October 20, 2024 Share #3 Posted October 20, 2024 The Q3 is 103g's heavier than the Q. The Q's is magnesium alloy with the top plate milled from 1 piece of aluminum, while the q3 is all magnesium die-cast metal. I don't think either feels like plastic but, to each their own.
Le Chef Posted October 20, 2024 Share #4 Posted October 20, 2024 At 743g I suspect there’s not much plastic. Maybe you have a fake? 2
JNK100 Posted October 20, 2024 Share #5 Posted October 20, 2024 It's subjective of course, but none of the Q's feel "plasticky"to me. I suggest you handle one yourself and decide .

Please help I am quite happy with the build quality of my Q3, but I can tell you that it sure does not have that feel of a fit for battle armoured tank in miniature with a lens attached. It looks fantastic in person, less so online in photos but in person it’s a lovely camera. Its not an M though and feel more hollow than the M system.
fda Posted October 20, 2024 Share #11 Posted October 20, 2024 You can accuse Leica of many things, but that the cameras feel like plastic is not true.
jaapv Posted October 20, 2024 Share #12 Posted October 20, 2024 Nowadays even plastics don’t feel “plasticky”.
Cogito Posted October 20, 2024 Share #13 Posted October 20, 2024 I’m not in love with the color of the gray grip on my Q343 so I’ve temporarily wrapped it with a 3rd party grip until I can get Leica put a Q328 black grip on it, but at no time would I describe the camera as plasticky. 11 hours ago, Quarterpounder said: OP, how are we going to be able to prove you wrong? FlashGordonPhotography Posted October 20, 2024 Share #15 Posted October 20, 2024 If Leica's are plasticky, which brands aren't? Gordon
ellisson Posted October 20, 2024 Share #16 Posted October 20, 2024 Plasticky? Are you kidding? Not sure what you (OP) had in the past, but the Qs are hardly plasticky. They are solid cameras, works of engineering art. Using light weight metals enhances the usability of the camera. The only solution for your doubts is to go to a Leica store and try one out. LocalHero1953 Posted October 21, 2024 Share #17 Posted October 21, 2024 (edited) Come on guys! We all know that the heavier the camera the higher the quality, don't we? And the more money we spend, the heavier it ought to be. Edited October 21, 2024 by LocalHero1953
chrisgonzalez Posted October 21, 2024 Share #18 Posted October 21, 2024 My Q doesn't feel plasticky or cheap at all... it's solid and robust without being pointlessly heavy.

Simone_DF Posted October 21, 2024 Share #20 Posted October 21, 2024 Cameras and lenses are not made of generic plastic, but in polycarbonate. The same material is used also for planes and aerospace. Perhaps the OP will also complain when boarding a plane?
