Shot on my M11 with the Summicron C 40mm and Elpro for close up, cool early morning light OOC. Resolving power on this budget lens never ceases to amaze me. Give it a click and see for yourself. Only a 1 meg jpeg too...

Had to look up the Elpro.  Looks so good. Your shot is better than Leica's catalog shot.

What distance range does it have?  My shimmed Summicron40 gets between 50cm and 120cm: good for tabletop, but not macro.

That’s very nice of you to say, although I don’t think I’d agree with you. I wish I could answer your question more accurately, but to be honest, I don’t remember. What I will tell you is that I was able to get far closer than I expected. I set my focus to the minimum setting and slightly rocked back and forth until I had the dew drops in focus. Also it is worth noting that it is dependent on what lens you put it on. It works much better on telephoto lenses. So as a rough guess I would say maybe around 30 cm. But don’t quote me, being American I am chronically metric challenged.

I would recommend watching the red dot forum YouTube show where they go in depth about macro. That show prompted me to buy the Elpro. They have lots of live demonstrations using that lens. Here is a direct link for you.

Whenever I take the 40mm Nokton Classic on the M9 with me, I enjoy it's perspective (although cropped to 16:9 here) and the joyful colors of the M9:

I've had a mix of Q and M gear over the years, with the current collection including a Q3 43, M11, and M9, and I have to say that the 43's APO lens is jaw-droppingly sharp. At first, I thought this sharpness was some software trickery, so I went ahead and tried a 50 APO on my M11... which rendered the LR sharpness adjustments totally useless - the lens is tack-sharp, so there's some magic to Leica's APO designs. I'd love to see a Leica APO 40-43mm M lens come to market :)

After one year trial of 40mm with the Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4, I decided to upgrade to the Nokton 40mm f/1.2 ASPH Version II. This new version is even more compact and lighter than the version 1 and now has a black front ring, which I prefer as well.

On the M9 it looks totally harmonious:

Compared to the Noctilux 50/1.0 on the A1, it looks almost delicate:

For those who really want it "tiny", the Nokton Classic 40/1.4 remains the first choice:

Here is a first test shot at open aperture on the M9:
