  1. OK, I'll admit it I'm a bit nutty for Summicrons. I have the 35mm ASPH the 50mm classic and the recently I found a 40mm (from the CL) for a measly $450 on fleabay. OK you say, why? You have two perfectly good lenses that actually have matching frame lines on your M10. There are two very good reasons I can come up with, the first is size. The lens is downright diminutive. It takes the M10 from small mirrorless to large point and shoot. It's now suitable for stuffing in a Billingham Aeva 5 pouch and throwing on a belt even for casual nights out or chasing the kids around the playground. Number 2 is it's actually a spectacular little lens with all the character and sharpness you could ever ask for. I'm actually finding it perfect for environmental portraiture and general street pics. It's also well suited to making multiple image panorama stitches with it's natural perspective. More than anything though it's just a pretty lens and it can do about 80% of the job of both a 35mm and a 50mm as well as have it's own character. OK so how do you frame it? Honestly it's not hard, the 50mm frame lines come up with it attached and I just imagine the frame is just outside those lines and I'm pretty close. For those instances where precise framing is necessary I always have live view. lastly I have great little Minolta double asphere close up diopter that I've adapted and this makes the little 40mm perfect for certain macro shots (especially watches and camera gear).
  2. I'm in the process of considering ONE of three lenses, all Voightlander (This is more about focal length vs the brand): - 35mm/1.7 Ultron - 50mm/1.5 Nokton - 40mm/1.2 Nokton If you had to choose only one of these which would it be?

  6. I really like this combo, for the most part, but I find it too soft at f/2 and need to really treat this lens as an f/2.8 lens to get the results I want. Has anyone else had the same experience with the 40mm?

  8. Hi all I just got an M8 and I'm not amazing with technical stuff so was hoping you would be able to advise. I want to get my first lens. Right, should I get the: Voigtlander Nokton 40mm 1.4 (Voigtlander 40mm f1.4 VM Nokton lens - alternative standard VM bayonet | Robert White Photographic Ltd) Or Voigtlander Nokton 35mm 1.4 (Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 VM Nokton Classic | Robert White Photographic Ltd) I'm a little confused about framelines, does the 35mm fit to the inner or outer lines on this example? - M8 Framelines from the M8 instruction manual | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Where would the 40mm fit, inside the inner lines but with no real guide? How big a difference will there be in terms of how zoomed in the lens is (I don't know the right terminology, but understand) I understand the crop factor is 1.33? I am used to using a digilux 3 with 30mm sigma 1.4, on which I think the crop factor is 2. Any other opinions I would be interested to hear. I care about size, weight, ease of use and of course quality of picture. Cheers Steve.
  9. I've been wondering if my 40mm Summicron-C lens is somehow out of alignment because it's noticeably less sharp at f/2.0 on my M8 than it is at f/2.8. However, yesterday I tested a friend's 40mm Rokkor-M and also noticed a similar drop in sharpness at f/2.0. I don't notice this on my 50mm Summicron. For those of you who shoot digital with one of these 40mm lenses, do you a difference in sharpness at f/2.0? Thanks!
  10. Hello everyone, this is my fisrt post and hopefully not my last. I know that the Leitz Minolta Cl dosen't have the Leica name, but I'm hoping that it's allowed. Below are three images I I took while hiking at Carpinteria State Beach in CA. I shot it with a Leitz Minolta CL using a 40mm Summicron lens and Kodak Ultra Color film. Black and White converted using NIK Silver Efex Pro with Photoshop. Thanks for looking
