KitW Posted October 5, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted October 5, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just found myself outside the Fuji shop in London. On a whim I went in and had a play. Technically I'm sure every camera I played with outclassed my CL by a good margin, but I just didn't like holding any of them. The dials felt too light. The folding screens were flimsy. I liked the weatherproofness of the lenses, but overall I found that the experience confirmed how happy I am with the CL. I could imagine getting gfx medium format for aerial photography (one lens would be fine), and if they were cheaper I'd try out a rangefinder. But as of today I'm more than happy with what I have - and its nice to have that confirmed. Â 3

When the CL was let down by Leica, I turned back to Canon, R6 and R5 for the versatility, noise-free images IBIS, OIS and fast and reliable AF. The two cameras never disappointed me and I am keeping them. Nevertheless I never bonded with them the way I did with the Leicas. I recently returned to Leica with the tiny DLux 8, which is pure fun and so nice to operate. I was fortunate to receive the first Q3 43 from my dealer. What can I say - the images provide exactly the character I want and have been missing. The same the CL and the Q 116 had, only still better. Incredible clarity, contrast and color. spydrxx Posted October 5, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted October 5, 2024 Never owned a Leica digital, but a number of Leica film bodies, SLR and rangefinders. And yes, I've owned and currently own a number of others, all of which get used. I view the Leicas as a classy special treat, but in the end, they are all tools. Dazzajl Posted October 5, 2024 Share #5 Â Posted October 5, 2024 I feel that Fuji have slightly lost their way in the last few years. They now make cameras that perform extremely well but, in my case at least, don't inspire the way they used to. I've been musing the idea of getting an X-Pro 1 again because the files are stunning and it can share all the lenses from my M body. As for the current Fuji line up, I shoot with GFX and X cameras daily and while I appreciate what the can deliver every day, I don't really enjoy them for 'play time'. Except perhaps the GFX50Sii and the 45mm.
Gregm61 Posted October 5, 2024 Share #6 Â Posted October 5, 2024 At some point, I'll be picking up a second-hand SL2 to use both my M lenses in full-frame mode and TL lenses in crop mode. Until then I waffle back & fourth between my M and CL outfits. Today it'll be the CL, 11-23, 35/1.4, 60mm f2.8 Macro and 55-135mm.
microCuts Posted October 21, 2024 Share #7 Â Posted October 21, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you prefer handling, get Leica. The joy of handling them is unmatchable. If you really want a cheaper camera, get Ricoh GR.
AdjusterBrett Posted October 24, 2024 Share #8  Posted October 24, 2024 (edited) Food for thought...  I have  related to this TL2, X-T1, X-T2, X-T4, X-T100...  Thereby I can tell you this...  I still have the three X-Ts because I'm too busy to sell off - but I "MAY" keep one (likely the X-T2 because the EVF is good enough and the output is preferred and I've the grip/cage, blah blah- and the plethora of native lenses and vintage adapters for which you may refer to the prior excuse as to why I still have them).  That said - since getting the TL2 and the Visio - there isn't too much PRO's in the Fuji column.  I'm at least 75% vintage (manual focus) - and realistically the Visio on the TL2 compared to even the X-T4 - just seems clearer.  In real world - do I hit focus as much - probably not (peaking on the X-T2 & X-T4 is solid and is worthless on the TL2) - but the ergos just make the difference.  The X-T's all have the dials - and my X-T2 is rock solid - the X-T4 is a bit less enthusiastic - but still functional.  The X-T4 is BIGGER.  I've become rather accustomed to the TL2 and can switch most of what I want in mere seconds - best UI ever, period (san's limitation).  However - Fuji is very quick as well - and functional - so pretty tied there.  For autofocus - there is simply no comparison - the Fujis win - even the X-T1 beats the TL2 - but I'm mostly vintage.  The difference in color science (if I can call it that) - can be drastic based on lens - but in general Fuji is very good with skin and group shots (not portrait, but multiple people) - its an offset of the Xtrans sensor (and the right software).  Reality: you could buy an X-T2 used with a plethora of extra batteries (and you will need them), NEW Viltrox 75 or 13mm. 1.4 - or used 90mm 2.0 fuji (best lens) - and still be under the price of a used T lens.  However - if money is no object those points are irrelevant.  I loved my X-T2 (enough that I bought the X-T3 - the only one I sold so far - and the X-T4 - and got along with them great).  If I were to buy a fuji today it would be a used X-T2.  However, owning both an S1 and the SL, just no room (nor weight capacity) for anymore.  Not shot on the X-T1 nor X-T4 in well over a year, did shot the X-T2 three months ago (with 90mm - just an exceptional lens and NO WAY to adapt).  I have NOT shot a CL - and like a moron I passed a few years ago when you could buy the body and get the 18 or 21 for free (dammit).  I cannot tell you how the EVF on the CL compares to the TL2 and Visioflex typ 020 - but I can say - the EVF on my S1 blows away most (5.76) and yet I swear the TL2 / Visio matches it (likely a function of a crop sensor and higher magnification).  If anyone has had the CL and TL2/Visio - on a side note - would love to know the comparison for manual focusing.  All said - being I fancy vintage (manual focus) and usually non Leica (guy with the most toys wins, not the nicest toys philosophy) - my ABSOLUTE goto is the SL.  Even returned the SL2S and kept the SL - between handling - that magnificent EVF - and the dozen lenses I bought with the price difference from SL to SL2S - its my happy place.  I did try the GFX for a short while - and while it was impressive - I'm a weekend hack still learning - and found myself more interested in shooting vintage vs. shooting the monster (and they are monsters - not in size - but shoot at f8 and pixel peep - good god)...  Although I love telling my venture - the moral of the story is - YOU DO YOU.  Try - if it makes you happy (not others) - then take that path.  My wife refers to me as the 'collector' - as I really didn't' get into this until Dec 2017 - and now I could open a used camera store.  OH - on addition for Fuji - their dual-displays with  peaking - where you have the full frame and then a magnification of the focus spot - is as good as it gets - and partly why it works so well with manual focus (and you need to swap the screens to do it right - framing small, focusing big and magnified) - its something Leica needs to duplicate on the TL/CL/SL IMHO. Guytou Posted October 24, 2024 Share #10 Â Posted October 24, 2024 It's true, such a block of text without a single paragraph is very unpleasant to read and rather encourages one to look elsewhere. Come on, a little effort... Guytou
